| Mirrabooka Primary School is a fully airconditioned, Department of Education and Training Level 4 school, with well-maintained, reticulated lawns and gardens and extensive outdoor areas. The attractive campus is shaded by mature trees, bounded by urban bushland and shared by the 275 students of the Primary School and the Intensive English Centre. We are situated in the suburb of Dianella, on the southern side of the Mirrabooka Senior High School. Mirrabooka Primary School has an inclusive ethos that promotes the intellectual, social and physical development of all students through structured learning programs, providing a quality education and equal opportunity. Our school's role is to prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of their future life. Specifically Mirrabooka Primary is actively engaged in motivating and engaging students in a safe and stimulating learning environment using the principles of teaching, learning and assessment. The core areas of literacy and numeracy are especially targeted. There is a high multicultural mix at Mirrabooka Primary School. In Semester 2, 2005 an Intensive English Centre commenced within the school and currently supports an enrolment of approximately 100 students. This year in 2008, a Kindergarten commenced in the school for the first time. School programs now cater for students from K to 7 and emphasise inclusivity and recognise and value the cultural diversity of our students and the Australian way of life. A staff of experienced teachers and education assistants ensure that each student has access to a curriculum which caters for his/her individual educational needs. Staff are highly motivated and enthusiastic and work collaboratively to support school initiatives and student outcomes. There are positive and effective School P&C and School Council committees, which meet regularly to discuss and make decisions about school programs and priorities. Our focus in the coming years is to encourage active participation by representatives of all communities that make up our school. One of our focus areas is the enhancement of open, two-way communication between staff, students, parents and the wider community. The active Student Council comprises a Head Boy and Girl (and Deputies) who are elected by the school for the whole year, and Class Representatives who are elected each term. This process teaches the democratic electoral processes, group representation and the rights and responsibilities of authority. Leadership workshops are held regularly. Mirrabooka Primary School places a strong emphasis on the provision of a safe and secure environment for all students, and we are committed to ensuring all children enjoy coming to school. | ||||
