| Our school, originally Canning Bridge School established in 1936 was renamed Manning Primary in 1951. We are located in a residential area in the City of South Perth, an inner metropolitan school attracting students from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. Our clientele includes children of Aboriginal heritage and diverse cultural backgrounds. Our school attracts some students whose parents are working or studying at surrounding universities. There is strong parent support from the P & C who have funded the air conditioning of all classrooms. Parent involvement is fostered through the School Council, help in the classroom, on special days or at sports carnivals. The staff are merit selected and bring a range of experience, special talents and innovative programs to the school. Ten classes, Pre-Primary to Year 7, provide students with a comprehensive program. Facilities, on the 6.4 hectare spacious grounds include air conditioned and gas heated classrooms, a large oval, cricket pitch, tennis, basketball and netball courts and small adventure playground. There is a covered assembly area for cultural and sporting events, a music room, and automated library housing a computer laboratory with 18 computers, as well as two internet linked computers in each classroom. The school's instrumental music program, trumpet, flute, and clarinet, caters for students in years 6 & 7. Our music teacher provides class tuition and opportunities for children to participate in the junior and senior choirs. In school private music tuition caters for children playing a variety of musical instruments including violin, piano, flute, trumpet and clarinet. Some of the instrumentalists come together to form the school band. In years 5, 6 & 7 children identified as being gifted and talented are offered Primary Extension and Challenge courses. Other school programs offer these children courses in performing arts, visual arts, science and dance. Other high profile school programs include physical education, public speaking and French. A number of our students have accepted offers of special placement programs at Como College and Applecross Senior High School or scholarships to surrounding non-government schools. | ||||
