Lesmurdie Primary is a K-7 school and is situated in the picturesque bush of the Darling Ranges approximately 20 km east of Perth city . The community has a caring and 'country' feel. The student population is relatively stable at around 260 students and 24 staff.

Our primary goals are to provide a full and exciting academic program and to ensure a safe, inclusive and friendly environment where all children feel welcome and valued. Teaching areas are bright, dynamic and child-friendly. Specialist programs include music, sport, and Italian.

Our priorities for 2006 and 2007 are:
1. Curriculum Development: Literacy- Reading/ Writing/Spelling; SAER; Collaborative Teaching Teams; Beginning focus on Science.
2. Health/Well-Being: Professional Learning; Staff Mentoring.
3. Inclusivity: SAER; Aboriginal Studies; Building Inclusive Schools.
4. Promoting Our School: Reporting To Parent; Parent Workshops; Special Events.

School renewal is a major priority for the school with ongoing upgrade to buildings, classrooms and grounds. In 2006, a new roof was installed in the Junior and Senior blocks and new air conditioners were installed in a number of classrooms. New ramps were installed to cater for students with special needs and a new patio was built in front of the Kindergarten. A submission for funding from the Investing In Our Schools Project was made jointly between the school and the P&C Association. At the end of 2006, we were notified that we were successful in gaining funds of $147,799.00 for new playground shelters; new garden upgrade in the junior area and new computers and ICT infrastructure. This work should be completed in 2007.

We have made a major commitment to curriculum improvement and enhancing student outcomes particularly in the areas of Reading and Writing. Staff have undergone extensive professional learning in First Steps Reading/Writing and Making Consistent Judgements. We have comprehensive and proactive strategies to identify and cater for students at educational risk as well as providing for our gifted and talented students through such programs as PEAC (Primary Extension and Academic Challenge). Lesmurdie Primary School has a very strong pastoral care approach to managing student behaviour with a focus on teaching values.
Community involvement is a feature of the school with parents playing a strong and active role in the school through the School Council, the P&C, fundraising and parent help in the classroom, library and sports program.
A parent survey was conducted in 2006 which indicated a high level of parental satisfaction with the school.
