LEDA PRIMARY SCHOOL

BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT
Background

Leda Primary School is presently a level six school in the Kwinana area. In 2008 the school's enrolment will reduce to around 500 children due to our year sevens moving to Gilmore College which is presently under construction. The school has an excellent pastoral care program and endeavours to have positive interaction with its parent body. A strong (discipline) BMIS policy is in place and is respected by members of the school community. Leda Primary receives large grants from the Commonwealth Literacy and Numeracy Program (CLNP) and as part of the Behaviour Management and Discipline (BMAD) program both of which are having a positive influence on the academic performance of the children.

Teaching and Learning

The school caters for children from Kindergarten to Year 7. This will change from 2008 when the school will have a K-6 structure. As was mentioned, there is a strong emphasis on pastoral care and we have an excellent senior mentor program running in our school. In 2008 our school will again have the services of a school pastor. This person is able to counsel children and parents who require this and is non-denominational, not 'pushing' a particular religious belief.

The school is divided into six sub-schools with a manager for each area. School plans reflect Departmental imperatives and at the same time are aimed at the two areas of the curriculum which are permanent priority areas- Language and Mathematics.

Through the Behaviour Management and Discipline (BMAD) program we are able to keep the size of classes small in the intermediate and senior years.

The staff are cohesive, responsive and supportive. The strength of this school lies in the team approach evident in administration and teaching.

Specialist Areas
Our school has specialist teachers in the areas of Physical Eduation and Music and Languages Other Than English (LOTE). As part of the music program we have a school choir which show cases the children's efforts in this area. In LOTE the children are taught Italian. Leda also has an elite soccer program in which children who have talent in this sport are coached by a highly qualified coach after school and participate in several major competitions throughout the year.

Overall:
Sad to say there wasn't anything.Toilets were and still are disgusting, lack of toilet paper and soap for washing hands.I feel that Leda Primary ruined both of my childrens lives. Punishment wasn't equal thoughout the school. Double standards, naughty children were rewarded. Complaints fell on deaf ears.
