| School Vision To create and maintain a school environment dedicated to preparing students to be productive, socially responsive and responsible citizens of the future. School Purpose Statement At Landsdale Primary School we are guided in both management and operation by the following principles: * Developing and maintaining relationships between staff and parents based on mutual respect, trust and open communication. * The maintenance of a flexible, caring and supportive learning environment through whole school collaboration. * Participative decision-making involving students, staff, parents and the community. * Maintaining a healthy and safe environment, free from harassment and prejudice. * Being responsible and accountable members of the school community. * Utilizing technology as a learning tool for quality student learning. * Developing an integrated student-centred approach to teaching and learning. * Encouraging students to become successful learners. * Encouraging reflective practices and whole life learning. * Facilitating the principles of developmental learning. School Community Landsdale Primary School is situated in the beautifully planned Landsdale Gardens Estate, 17km from the city. Most parents are employed and there are a lot of young families in the area. Houses and gardens in the area demonstrate a high degree of personal pride and the parents have high expectations for their children, which they expect the school to deliver. These include wanting their children to be happy and challenged, expecting that they are well managed and feel secure at school. Parents want competent staff and like the organisation of extra-curricula activities. They expect a clean, well organised school with up-to-date resources to develop student learning and desire student performance information in a consistent and easily understandable format. Parents are pleased with the school's student management processes and feel it is important that staff are approachable and open. The majority of parents are supportive of the school, with an active P and C Association who have raised considerable amounts of money for the school, including the purchase of reading books, maths equipment, digital cameras, enclosing the under covered area, money towards air conditioning, a new PA system, library books and three adventure playground structures. Existing parent involvement in the school includes, classroom assistance, school canteen, library assistance, fundraising, parking wardens, the uniform shop, Scholastic Book Club, Safety House project, Road Wise project, excursions, and School Management Council. The parent body is keen for new initiatives to take place in the school, and are supportive of school endeavours. The students have a vast interest in the new electronic age and enjoy the information and communication technology (ICT) focus within the school. The ICT emphasis ensures the knowledge and skills of the students in this area is harnessed and utilized. Some students still do not have computers at home, so the school decision to allow access to the technology before and after school has meant children are not disadvantaged by economic factors. Features of the Learning Program Our school has developed teams of teachers and support staff, K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-7. These teams engage in cooperative, collaborative planning of the teaching/learning programs (including collaborative DOTT) to achieve a balanced Curriculum and provide students with a core group of staff they can feel close with. The collaborative approach also allows all students to develop a wider friendship group. The staff cater for differing learning styles through the Curriculum Framework (which reflects what students should know as a result of their schooling), Outcomes and Standards Framework (documents that assist teachers to assess student achievement, and develop curriculum) and extensively networked information technology. Staff see themselves as school leaders, taking on responsibility for the management of learning areas, and the development of teaching and learning programs that best suit the needs of their particular group of students. Curriculum development reflects child centered experiences, allowing for students to become responsible for their learning, through the use of self-assessment, goal setting, planning and self-reflection. Children demonstrate their learning using a variety of formats including projects, peer assessment, videos, multiple intelligence activities, artwork, photos or computer programs and through the Three-Way Conference and Learning Journey processes. Our specialist and support programs are varied due to the wide range of talents many of our staff possess. Music, Languages Other Than English (LOTE), Physical Education (PE), Art/Craft, Technology and Enterprise, Language and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) all have carefully planned and integrated programs that run in conjunction with classroom teachers. These programs allow for all students to discover their interests and talents and to develop them further. Of particular importance are the whole school projects involving all classes in the school, which include design and construction of ceramic murals for each teaching block and school canteen, naming competition for the school canteen, growing local plant seedlings in the school greenhouse, Year 7 Retreat designed and built by the students, beautification of the school through recycling and waste watching, whole school support for a selected charity and Multicultural Day. Children are also involved in the following extra-curricula programs: debating and speak up awards, tennis, dance, choir and computer clubs. Extension programs to challenge students include development of the school newspaper, expert groups in ICT, buddy classes, logo and robotics clubs, and membership to the Student Council and Peer Mediation Program. Landsdale provides support for students through the Implementation of Early Literacy Intervention processes, expert knowledge of education support staff and Students At Educational Risk (SAER) strategies. Underpinning curriculum development is the inbuilt infrastructure of Information Technology that links the whole school with the outside world. As a relatively new school, Landsdale has an impressive list of physical resources children can access to assist the learning program. There is a predetermined infrastructure for Information Technology throughout, where children can communicate between the teaching blocks, e-mail staff and parents, access the internet or use multimedia and office applications. Special art/craft, music and technology and enterprise areas allow for the safe and equitable access of resources for all students. The layout of the teaching blocks around a multi-functional, central work area with computer access, facilitates innovative programs. The school's Information Centre provides access to the internet, a large bank of computers, all necessary reference materials and a variety of multi- media equipment, including a parent borrowing section with material relating to education, parenting and helping children succeed at school. | ||||
