Verdict - quite positive rating.

Compare with all other primary schools.
Lake Gwelup Primary School opened in 1914 and is located in a suburban residential area 11 kilometres north of the city of Perth, Western Australia.

The locality can be described as wetlands, and Lake Gwelup, a small shallow lake and its surrounding public reserve is nearby. Historically the locality has been essentially a market garden area.

The school grounds are most attractive with very well maintained lawns and shady gardens and a large vegetable garden in which students are actively involved. The two original wooden school buildings 1914, which are heritage listed, remain on site. The Lake Karrinyup Golf Club, excellent beaches, major shopping centres, sporting and cultural facilities are in close proximity.

The school is proud of its academic record. The students consitently achieve above average results in the WA literacy and Numeracy when compared with other students from a similar demographic enrolment.

The school enrolment is 277 students from Kindergarten to Year 7. Student numbers will continue to increase due to recent land subdivision.

The staff consists of a Principal, Deputy Principal and classroom teachers. The remaining staff includes part-time teachers of: Music, Japanese and a Support teacher. Non-teaching personnel consist of: a Gardener/Handyman, Registrar, Early Childhood Assistants, a Special Needs Assistant, Junior Primary Aides and a Library officer

The class structure at present includes: Kindergarten (two sessions), two Pre Primary classes, PP and Year 1, Year 1/2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 and Year 7 classes.

The Pre Primary Centre was built onto the existing school in 1983. T Some transportable early childhood classrooms have been added in 2004 to cater for the rapidly growing population. The school also has a transportable library erected in 1998. An unndercover assembly area was built in October 2004.

Priority curriculum development programs for 2004 are: Language, Mathematics and Science.

Lake Gwelup Primary School encourages and values high level of community involvement and participation. The school's very active Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) is well resourced and initiates many important functions. Fundraising by the P&C results in major improvements to the school.
The Lake Gwelup Primary School Council consists of five community and four staff members. It meets frequently to make important strategic planning decisions and to deal with any issues impacting on the schools future.

Overall:
Lake Gwelup is a close knit school with high level of parent involvement. The grounds are fantastic and provide a safe play environment.I haven't found any bad points yet.Love the school. I went to Lake Gwelup about 30 years ago and moved into the area specifically so my son could attend. We have had no problems and the school and staff have been very understanding and accomodating of his medical needs.
