Koorda is situated 236km north east of Perth in the Central Wheat belt. The shire covers an area of approximately 2700 square kilometres, while the population of the town is around 400. The town offers a wide range of amenities, sporting and cultural activities. The town has a CBH facility and a Western Power depot that employs a number of people in the town.

The current population profile indicates that a majority of our students live in the town site while approximately 10% of our students live on farms and catch a bus to school.

The Koorda Primary School is located in the centre of town and occupies an entire block. The school is a focal point for the community and students alike and the beautifully maintained grounds establish an appealing environment for the variety of groups and individuals who take advantage of its facilities. We have 26 Primary students, 4 Pre Primary and 5 Kindergarten students.

The students are taught to both work cooperatively and individually and to respect the rights of others. Personal qualities and values are promoted and initiative is rewarded. The school provides learning experiences in all of the eight learning areas. In order to overcome concerns associated with the rural isolation of the school, we play an active role in PCAP (Priority Country Area Program). The students interact regularly with other schools in sporting and cultural activities.

We have two air conditioned classrooms and an air conditioned resource room/library. The buildings are well maintained and presented. The playground area has been improved and the natural surroundings are well maintained.

We have a ratio of one computer to six students and with the assistance of the P&C continually upgrade and extend our resource collection. The Internet is used to bring our students into the global classroom. We have networked computers in each class and a computer in the library. The school is always aiming to improve the quality and efficiency of the computer network.

The school's non-teaching staff is made up of local community members and has been fairly stable for a number of years. The current teaching staff reflects a blend of youth and experience; they are all dedicated to their profession and are making a significant positive difference to the education of the children of Koorda.

The Koorda School Planning Groups are continually assisting the school and student needs and has progressed significantly in taking a proactive role in the quality education that our children deserve. The School Council and Parents and Citizens Association meet regularly to discuss and implement actions that lead to an improvement in the education outcomes achieved by the students.
