| Koondoola Primary School is located approximately 17 kilometres from the Perth CBD in the City of Wanneroo and has an enrolment of 326 students. The school consists of two sections, the 'mainstream' part of the school, and the Intensive English Centre (IEC), which caters for the needs of recently arrived migrant children who have a limited or no understanding of English. This provides the school with a rich multicultural environment that is built on to show how different groups can work and play together in harmony. Next door is Burbridge School, an Education Support School that has a satellite class hosted by Koondoola Primary School. The school boasts a large oval for sporting activities and has negotiated access to the adjoining council oval for recess, lunch and sporting activities. The grounds are spacious and shady offering a comfortable environment for both staff and students. Koondoola PS is a happy nurturing environment, which allows students to develop in a supportive and collaborative classroom environment. The staff offer innovative and flexible learning experiences that allow children to maximise their opportunity to continue to develop and progress. All teachers use ICT to enhance and engage the children's learning. This year the school is increasing the computing network in the school to make it more reliable, and is able to increase the number of computers in each classroom. We have the advantage of a 'Getting It Right' Literacy Specialist and an English as a Second Language specialist who works in collaboration with all staff to implement strategies across all year levels. We work tirelessly with our community, which includes our Aboriginal community. It is this strong link that enables our Aboriginal community to continue to be involved with the education process and actively take part in decision making. We support our students with a number of pastoral care programs including Protective Behaviours, Rainbows, Drumbeat, Choose Respect and the Behaviour Management and Discipline Program. All families are supported by the school and are encouraged to take an active part in their child's learning. Koondoola PS takes pride in its flexible and engaging programs, and its multicultural environment, which continually strives to achieve excellence in the academic, social, emotional, behavioural and sporting aspects of school life. | ||||
