| Welcome to Kinross Primary School. Kinross Primary School is in the West Coast Education District approximately five kilometres north of the suburb of Joondalup. The school was established in 1995. Students attending the school are mainly from the suburb of Kinross with some enrolments from families residing in nearby suburbs. There are currently 571 primary students enrolled in Years 1 to 5 and 80 Kindergarten (4-year olds) and 106 Pre Primary (5-year olds) students in pre compulsory programs. Following Year 5 children move on to Kinross College for Years 6 - 10. The buildings and grounds are well established and well maintained, providing an excellent educational environment for students and staff. The school comprises three teaching blocks comprising fourteen (14) air conditioned teaching areas. Each has a central activity area for cooking and associated activities. The school also has Performing Arts and Visual Arts rooms. The District Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) centre is also located at the school. The Kinross Primary School's vision is:- that individual student needs are met through teaching and learning programs which reflect current 'Best Practice.' To facilitate this staff have a program of professional development to provide current information about Department of Education and Training (DET) initiatives. These initiatives are regularly included in the fortnightly school newsletter. The school provides an educational program that caters for a broad spectrum of abilities, needs and interests of students and has strong links with parents and the local community. The school has a policy that requires students to wear an agreed code of dress. An active Student Council and Student Forum meet to promote student activities. The school has six units on site providing Four Year Old and Five Year Old programs. The units feature up-to-date resources and programs, carefully selected to maximise learning opportunities. 'Interest Centres' are allocated generous space to encourage interaction between students. The focus changes frequently in response to the developmental learning programs devised by Early Childhood Teachers supported by Education Assistants. The staff make extensive use of Performance Indicators in Primary Schools (PIPS). The 'You Can Do It' program is used across the centers as a values based behaviour management program. Parent involvement is encouraged. Primary students study a full range of subjects across the eight learning areas. The exception is Languages Other Than English (LOTE, Italian), which is studied by Years 3 to 5. There is a focus on library, visual arts, physical education and music, which have specialist teacher tuition time. Some students attend Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) classes provided on site. Talented and Gifted programs operate across the school. Significant funding has been allocated to support information communication technologies and the provision of computers in each room. Our computers have Internet access while digital still, and video, cameras are used extensively. An acclaimed teacher resource bank titled 'Kinross e-ssentials' is used extensively by staff. A modern well-resourced and automated library resource centre is the communications hub of the school. Specialist instruction in the use of the automated facilities provides students with experience in using computer equipment. Computers are also available for Internet and Intranet access and group tuition. A committed team, comprising a manager, staff and volunteer workers, provide school lunches each day from a canteen facility connected to the undercover area. Multi purpose courts are available for student use and for hire to the general public. At Kinross Primary School, parents and care givers are recognised as important contributors to their child's social, physical, cultural, moral and intellectual development. Their contribution includes helping with the implementation of a range of in-class programs; assisting with extra curricula activities; participating in the school decision making process via an active Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) and School Council; supporting the ongoing development of the school resources and facilities via the P&C and attending parent information sessions and meetings. The school provides information via a fortnightly newsletter. The school perceives the relationship with parents and care givers as being part of a team endeavouring to achieve common goals.
