| Nestled in a quiet residential area, enjoying sweeping ocean views, Kapinara Primary School takes its name from a combination of two Aboriginal words, 'Kap' meaning 'water' and 'inara' meaning 'over there'. Located in the beachside suburb of City Beach, a fifteen minute drive from Perth city, Kapinara first opened in 1967. Current enrolment from Kindergarten to Year 7 is 270, with students drawn mainly from north City Beach and south Wembley Downs. Kapinara encourages high levels of student participation in academic, sporting, musical and social programs. The 'Friendly Schools and Families ' program runs throughout the school with a focus in 2007 on values education. Extension programs are provided to identified students through a cluster program run in Years 5 - 7, with neighbouring primary schools City Beach and Wembley Downs. Quality learning programs are offered to all students incorporating additional individual support if required. In response to research evidence, a focus is put on developing strong foundations in the early years of education. Considerable success is enjoyed in academic pursuits, with above average performances in external assessments. The school has a proud reputation in sport and music. Additional before school training is available in swimming and athletics. A specialist strings program runs from Year 3 to 7, together with orchestra, and a boys and girls choir. Kapinara boasts a vibrant, acitve and involved community whose contributions to school life are greatly valued. The Parents and Citizens Association is well supported as is the School Council. | ||||
