Kambalda Primary School is one of those magical schools that is sometimes found with the right mix of ingredients that provides it's school community with a caring, relaxed, inclusive atmosphere, fringed with excitement and challenge. Located amongst rolling hills, fifty-five kilometres south of Kalgoolie-Boulder, Kambalda PS is a Level Four Department of Education and Training facility with a proud history dating back to its establishment in 1968.

Previously experiencing a decline in numbers, Kambalda PS has recently seen enrolments plateau at approximately 170 - 180 students during 2007. The fluctuations of the local mining industry is considered the primary factor affecting student population and although numbers are currently stable there is a constant exchange of incoming and outgoing students.

An inherent feature of Kambalda PS is the multi-cultural diversity of its students. Originating from overseas, interstate and local areas, over twenty nationalities are represented providing a culturally rich environment that is inclusive of a variety of customs and beliefs.

The highly dedicated, motivated and professional staff is comprised primarily of teachers in the commencement of their teaching careers completing their first teaching appointment. They are supported by an indispensable group of support staff who have a long affiliation with the Kambalda Schools and wider community. Together they form a dynamic team that endeavours to make a difference in the social, emotional, physical and academic development of our students.

Kambalda PS has developed a strong reputation for catering for the individual needs of its students through innovative and exciting learning programs that balance the need for traditional direct instruction teaching methods with an outcomes focus.

Literacy and Numeracy have been identified as key priorities for 2007 with a specialist teacher selected to deliver direct instruction spelling, reading and writing throughout the school. A focus on writing using First Steps ensures students are catered for at their developmental level. A Getting It Right Numeracy specialist provides teachers with on-site support for implementation of First Steps in Mathematics providing students with learning experiences that are constantly planned, monitored and reviewed to determine their effectiveness.

Kambalda CARES is a program that has its origins in our obligations as a Solar School by promoting sustainable programs through our classroom practice. The program has evolved to incorporate core values such as a lifelong pursuit of knowledge, respect of self, respect of others and social, civic and environmental responsibility. Coupled with our explicit values-based program PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Skills) students are embarking on exciting learning journeys that help develop the knowledge, skills and understandings they need to become responsible members of a sustainable future.

Caring for ourselves and our community are fundamental beliefs that permeate every day practice at Kambalda PS. Respect for selves, Respect for others and Respect for Community are themes that are embedded in daily interactions and reinforced through our Managing Student Behaviour policy. The PATHS control signals 'Stop, Think and Do' are integral in developing strategies for students to deal with situations that make them feel uncomfortable.

Kambalda PS is renowned for its community partnerships which are enhanced through a series of regular events that celebrate being part of our small community of approximately 5 000 people. With a dynamic well-represented Parent and Citizens' Association and student representation on committees such as Tidy Towns there has developed an entrenched culture of community ownership and pride in our school.

The school grounds have recently been fully refurbished with upgrades to most facilities including internal and external painting, new carpeting, PA system, installation of solar energy panels, digital A3 fax, commercial laminator and acquisition of forty computers. This year over $100 000 of Investing in Schools funding will be utilised on replacement of all classroom furniture, library resources and installation of an upper primary fitness circuit.
