| Inglewood is a delightful small inner city school situated in the tree lined avenues of an older suburb surrounded by lovely character homes. In recent years the suburb has become very popular due to its proximity to the city. Many houses in the area have been renovated and extended. The school has a special place within the community as is evidenced by the amount of parental involvement. The parents are welcomed into the school by all staff and they are often seen around the school taking individual children or groups for reading or other activities planned by the teachers. The Parents and Citizens Association plays a very active role within the school; both by fundraising and holding events for parents to get together and become part of the school community. Such events include a welcome night for parents, children and staff early in the new year, a quiz night, soirees for parents, movie nights, discos for children, an Easter raffle and a walkathon. At regular intervals busy bees are held to upgrade the appearance of the school grounds and equipment. The efforts of the P&C not only provide funds to enhance learning programs but also engender a strong community feel and sense of ownership that is an attractive feature of the school. Over the years the parent body have added new playground equipment for the senior children, planted garden beds around the quadrangle area and established a new senior quiet area with a reading table surrounded by shrubs and adorned with student mosaic works. Sandpits and playground equipment have been renewed at the offsite Kindy and Pre-primary centres. Fundraising by the P&C has also enabled the school to purchase digital cameras, computers and computing furniture for every room and allowed the school to upgrade sporting and art equipment. The school has an excellent music program which encompasses all years. It includes junior and senior choirs, a school orchestral band, a rock band and various instrumental ensembles (violin, cello, clarinet, flute and brass). All of these perform at assemblies throughout the year. Inglewood is well set up with technology. Each classroom has three desktop computers wired to a curriculum network and a trolley containing 28 Apple MacIntosh iBooks is wheeled between classes. The iBooks are connected to the curriculum server and to a printer via a Cisco wireless network. Students develop the skills required for using both the Windows and MacIntosh operating systems and move confidently from one system to the other. The staff at the school are very committed to extending the students so that they perform to the best of their ability as evidenced by the number of students who obtain high distinctions in the various competitions that the school enters. This, combined with the large number of children who attend the district's PEAC (Primary Education Academic Challenge) courses each year shows that the school has a commitment to the achievement of excellence. In 2004 a former student was dux of Mount Lawley Senior High School and many others have received exhibitions in the state TEE results. Every year a number of graduates from Inglewood Primary are selected to join the MLSHS visual and performing arts program as well as specialist academic and music programs at other schools. Scholarships to private schools have also been awarded to our students. Even though the school site is small, the 350 students play and work together as one big family emphasizing the school's motto of 'Caring and Sharing'. | ||||
