| Hyden Primary School is a Level 3 school and is the only government school located in Hyden. We are approximately 200km from our regional centre of Narrogin and many of our students travel significant distances by bus to attend school each day. We have 4 buses that service our school. We are committed to providing quality education in an inclusive, caring and supportive learning environment. The school has a strong emphasis on developing students' skills in literacy, numeracy and values. We also enjoy the benefits of an informed and involved community. Our student population is currently 105 with our numbers rising significantly in the next 4 years. The school has 5 classes - Year 1, Year 2, Year 3/4 and Years 5/6/7. We also have onsite a K/PP classroom. A strength of our school is the high level of parental involvement in aspects of school life. The P & C Committee is exceptionally active, supporting the learning program of our students by contributing to school planning and the implementation of these plans. This has resulted in successful learning programs for all students. Parents also assist students with an in-class support program run in Pre-primary and the Junior classroom and with activities such as excursions. We also have a very effective After-Schools Programme operating, which is government funded. This programme operates with the assistance of our parent and community volunteers. The School Council, in consultation with the community, is a strong, focused group working on long-term planning for our school. This group considers school results and student outcomes in detail. Their recommendations will direct our school planning for 2007. The school staff have implemented a highly successful Peer Mediation Programme which has created a safer and friendlier environment for all school members.
