| Hilton Primary is a Level 4 School situated in the heart of the Fremantle - Peel Education District. The school is located approximately five kilometres from Fremantle CBD and surrounded by major traffic arteries-Carrington and South Streets and Winterfold and Stock Roads. Hilton is an area that traditionally contained a large percentage of Homes west Housing but has, over recent years, experienced a significant increase in private home ownership and urban renewal. The school is over 50 years old and has a diverse and cosmopolitan population. Hilton Primary, in earlier days, had an enrolment of over 900 students. The current enrolment is approximately 150 students. The smaller enrolment enables us to be more family orientated and with a caring school community. Our school aims to enhance the lives of our children by fostering a positive self-concept which allows for Intellectual, Physical and Social development, resulting in successful participation in the School and the wider Community. To support students to achieve their full potential, teachers aim to provide a full and balanced curriculum that encourages supported risk taking and provides programs that cater to individual student needs, regardless of their abilities, while challenging their strengths. The Hilton Primary School class structure in 2006 is described below. The structure will vary from year to year depending upon students enrolments. Kulunga Aboriginal Kindergarten Monday to Thursday pm (Off site centre) Morning Kindergarten/Pre Primary, Monday to Thursday. Preprimary students attend full time Monday to Friday Year 1 Year 2 Year 3/4 Year 5 Year 6/7 The school staffing profile consists of a Principal (Level 4), Deputy Principal, 11 teaching staff ranging from full time employment to 1 day, 3 Aboriginal & Islander Education Officers, 6 Education Assistants, a part time Registrar and Library Officer. Teaching staff are highly motivated and have a wide range of experiences from city teaching through to working in remote locations or overseas. The staff are committed to delivering high quality learning experiences to allow students to achieve to the best of their ability. Hilton Primary is a well equipped school, boasting a computer laboratory containing 24 up to date, broadband connected computers. Students have two 60 minute timetable computer skills sessions each week to enhance computing skills and enable better use of research and ICT sessions. Each classroom houses two networked computers that students access throughout daily lessons. Hilton Primary has a well resourced and comparatively modern Library. Children receive instruction in library and internet research skills in a weekly 60 minute lesson and follow up with a book exchange session. Other facilities include parent meeting room,3 netball/basketball courts, under-covered play and eating area and large grassed playing areas. Hilton Primary has a land area of over four hectares so there is plenty of space for our students to run around. All teaching areas are air-conditioned. Hilton Primary has a very supportive school community. Although there is no active Parents and Citizens Association the School Council is very active and in 2006 arranged many school events including the Easter Raffle and Welcome to Hilton Bush Dance at the start of the year. | ||||
