| Hillman Primary School is a level 5 school in the Fremantle Peel District, and is located in the City of Rockingham, approximately 50 kilometres south of Perth. Built and opened in 1975 our school, caters for students from Kindergarten (4 year olds) to Year seven (12 year olds). Our current school enrolments are 278. Many families remain in the Hillman area and successive generations of family members have attended our school, which contributes to our reputation as a friendly, community school. Our spacious grounds contain several sets of playground equipment, a large school oval, basketball, netball courts and a fitness track. The oval is shaded by established trees and gardens; the community has access to this area. A fence surrounds the perimeter, making it a safe environment for all students. Our Mission is to provide a quality education where all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential; academically, socially, physically and personally, in a caring school environment. Students from pre primary to year 7 access specialist programmes in music, physical education, and art, with students from years 3 to 7 learning Japanese. The senior students participate in many interschool sporting events and carnivals. The school has had great success in our sporting activities. Competing in swimming, athletics, cross country, football, basketball, netball, cricket etc. The school is very competitive against other schools of a much larger size. Both senior and junior choirs perform in an annual musical festival. We also benefit from the services of our school psychologist and school nurse who offer support to parents with any issues related to their children. We are hoping to establish a chaplain in our school to assist in class activities and act as a mentor to students, providing a strong role model of positive values. An AIEO position has become available to assist our indigenous students. Our whole school pastoral care programme reinforces identified values in class and school activities. All areas of the school are networked to the library computer laboratory, the school administration centre and the World Wide Web. The computer ratio is 1:5. We are updating our technology learning programme with interactive white boards and upgrading our network to 1Gb. The focus of our upgrade is to improve the speed of internet access and create a more reliable network with improved access to the Internet. The teaching staff provide considerable experience and stability to the school and the programmes offered. The staff and students are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students, all staff have participated in the Classroom Management Strategies, using low key techniques to ensure a classroom for learning. We have a comprehensive Behaviour Management Policy. Parents and the community are involved in the review of these policies. The school has a very active and supportive School Council and P & C. They have worked tirelessly over several years to air condition the school, upgrade our fitness track and provide resources for our students. They operate the school canteen five days per week, providing healthy food choices for all students. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in their children's education and are welcomed into the school community to assist in classrooms and school programmes. As a school we encourage the best possible outcomes for our students by working closely with students, staff and parents to respond to the changing needs of our community and society as a whole. | ||||

| Hillman although a small school has a massive heart and lives fondly in the minds of former students. A change of principal in 2008 has seen a massive surge in school spirit and added with a new look P&C The future looks bright. | Being a government school built in the mid 1970's th eschool could do with a huge makeover especially the ageing asbestos roof. | I have moved approx 8 km's away and have chosen to keep my children at the school. The wonderfully green setting and great staff added with small class numbers hopefully makes an enjoyable and worthy education experience for my kids. | ||
