| At Hannans Primary School our purpose is to provide a learning environment that will enable each individual to develop and appreciate the academic, creative, physical and social skills necessary to become a worthy member of a changing society. Hannans provides a bright, inclusive and progressive learning environment. Our school motto is 'Strive for Excellence' and this is evident in all aspects of our school. Our enthusiastic, committed staff members promote participation, collaboration and excellence through authentic learning experiences. Our school environment is well maintained and continually improved to provide an attractive exciting place for staff and students to achieve their best. Our wonderful students and supportive parent community enable us all to work as a positive, cohesive team. Hannans was established in 1992 and has extensive grounds incorporating basketball and tennis courts, covered playgrounds and a large oval surrounded by magnificent salmon gum trees. The modern open-plan buildings include three teaching blocks each with central wet areas for activity based lessons that require space or washable floors. The Specialist block contains a comprehensive library, music room and computer laboratory. A large undercover Assembly Area houses Paddy's canteen which provides healthy, tasty meals every day of the week. We are committed to the provision of an inclusive educational program that promotes Values education and encourages positive self-worth, individuality and group skills. Teachers collaboratively plan meaningful programs integrated across curriculum areas to accommodate the different needs and learning styles of our students. Hannans provides strong and consistent discipline. Self-management and cooperation skills are actively taught. Students are trained as Peer Mediators, to assist in resolving minor playground issues and all Year 7 students hold formal leadership roles to help them develop their mentoring and interaction skills. There is a strong emphasis on health and well being, including daily fitness and healthy eating. We have 250 families from a range of cultural backgrounds. Our supportive and enthusiastic School Council, Parents and Citizens Association and assorted committees ensure the school environment is safe, enjoyable and conducive to effective learning for everyone. In answer to the question, 'How does Hannans Primary School feel, sound and look?' our students replied, 'It's calm, warm, welcoming and comfortable. It's very friendly, like laughter or cheering. There are lots of open grassy spaces and colourful murals.' Current initiatives include: Literacy Numeracy Specialist Music program Wongatha Language in Cultural Studies Drumbeat program Active After School Communities program Improvements to school grounds through Waterwise School Grants and Investing in Our Schools Funding Staff leadership and mentoring. | ||||
