| The Gwynne Park Schools are a Level 5 Primary School and Level 3 Education Support Centre sharing the same campus situated in the suburb of Brookdale in the City of Armadale. The schools are part of the Canning Education District. The area from which the schools draws their students is identified by the ABS as having an SES Index of 86.19, placing the school in the 10th decile for social disadvantage. This has an impact on many of the students' lives and is reflected in school achievement levels and social indicators. As a consequence funding is available to the school through the Commonwealth Literacy and Numeracy program. At Gwynne Park we recognise and value the cultural diversity of our students. Our school has a significant number of Indigenous students well as students representing 25 different ethnic backgrounds. Gwynne Park Schools have a teaching staff of approximately 32 teachers (ranging from full time to two days per week). These people have a wide range of experience ranging from enthusiastic graduates to experienced teachers. Historically the primary school has seen large turnovers each year in its teaching staff however this trend is being reversed with far more stability evident in the last few years. The majority of staff have been in the schools at least 3 years with some considerably longer. The schools have a Principal (Level 5), Principal (Level 3) two Associate Principals (Level 3), a full time Getting it Right Literacy Teacher and specialists in Aboriginal Cultural Studies, Health and Physical Education, Art/Craft, Music/Dance, and Library/Information and Communication (ICT). There are three Aboriginal Islander Education Officers who provide positive home-school partnerships and help increase the learning outcomes for Aboriginal students. The school is also fortunate enough to have a committed group of highly skilled Education Assistants working with children across all year levels. An active P&C and School Council contribute to a collaborative organisation dedicated to meeting the academic and social needs of all our students. Gwynne Park Schools' grounds are extensive with a range of facilities that would be expected from a Government school. The use of technology is becoming a special feature of the school and is used as a tool to enhance learning. During 2004 the school employed a library resource teacher to maximise the benefits of the library and became a 'centre of learning' for all children. A networked computer laboratory allows all students access to the Internet via the school's curriculum server. The school has a specialist art room with kiln, a spacious music/dance area, library resource centre and two undercover areas. There are also excellent grasses and hard court facilities for sport, physical education and recreational activities. | ||||
