| Purpose Statement At Greenmount Primary School, we aim to provide students with an inclusive, caring, safe and cooperative learning environment. Our environment will promote equality, respect, creativity and self esteem through relevant learning experiences, which reflect community values and allow students to develop with confidence to their full potential, preparing them for 'life long learning'. The following core values are inherent in all our programs. A pursuit of knowledge and a commitment to achievement of potential Self acceptance and respect of self Respect and concern for others and their rights Social and civic responsibility Environmental responsibility History and Location The first Government School on Greenmount Hill commenced in 1913 as a one-teacher establishment. This cottage school was replaced by a more permanent building, still standing in Marloo Road, and continues to serve the community as a theatre for live Arts. The present school, which first opened its doors in 1964, stands upon the historic site of Blackboy Hill. It was here that over 32,000 men trained and later embarked for overseas military service. Each year, in association with the Bellevue sub-branch of the RSL, Greenmount Primary School hosts a public commemorative Anzac Service at the adjacent Ellipses. This is a major event on the school's calendar. Since its inception, the school has been involved in both the social and military history of the Blackboy Hill district. The School's emblem is itself an adaptation of the original badge of the Forty Fourth Battalion, West Australian Rifles. Many artefacts and documents from this era are displayed in the school's foyer. Greenmount Primary is approximately 20 km from Perth's CBD and enjoys views of the city from its elevated position at the base of the Darling Scarp. School Profile The school has 26 teaching staff and 19 non-teaching staff that engage approximately 430 K-7 students, in 16 classrooms (6 of which are demountables) in educational programs responsive to Department of Education and Training initiatives and student performance information. Purpose built buildings such as the covered Assembly area, Library, Music/Drama room and Art room provide excellent facilities for our specialist Japanese, Music, Art and Phys Ed teachers. Enrolment demographics indicate that approximately 50% of students are from out of boundary locations. This figure is likely to change gradually as the school was gazetted a Local Intake School in 2005 and can preference enrolments for those families that reside within the school's boundaries. Greenmount Primary School has an enviable reputation in the Swan Education District for giving its children and parents opportunities to experience exciting educational and cultural programs. These projects and programs would not be possible without the dedicated work of teachers, children and parents. Outlined below are some of the more 'high profile' activities. ? The Environmental program which was a finalist in the 2005 Western Australian Environment Awards. ? The Support A Reader Program that utilises the services of over 80 parents and supports a Parent Conference attended by over 100 guests and student representatives from all 16 classes. The parent workshops that are run every term by curriculum specialist teachers and inform parents of activities to assist in the literacy and numeracy development of their children. ? The Japanese LOTE program that has provided strong cultural links with a sister school in Japan. A very successful study tour of students and adults from Japan was organised in 2006. ? The Music program that supports a choir of over 110 members and performs yearly at the Burswood Convention Centre. An increasing instrumental program and newly formed rock band provide additional outlets for our talented children. Academic Achievement The Greenmount Primary School students generally perform above the state average in the Western Australian Literacy and Numeracy (WALNA) tests that are undertaken yearly by our Year 3, 5 and 7 students. Specialist teachers in Mathematics (appointed in 2004), Literacy (appointed in 2006) and Science (appointed in 2006) provide teaching and non-teaching staff, students and parents with the latest educational initiatives and best-practice teaching strategies. Comprehensive Students At Educational Risk (SAER) identification procedures and programs ensure students' social and academic needs are well catered for. Pre-Primary to Year 7 students are homogeneously distributed in multi-aged grouped classes enabling 'looping' to occur so that long term relationships and partnerships between students, teachers and parents are formed to provide the most appropriate inclusive educational and social programs. The Principles of Learning, Teaching and Assessment, as outlined in the Curriculum Framework, guide the teaching pedagogies of our staff. Parent Participation An enthusiastic School Council and active P&C Association provide the parent body with formal structures in which to assist staff provide the most appropriate teaching and learning environments for the children who attend Greenmount Primary School. Fund raising activities are well supported by the parent body and monies raised are directed towards school priorities that are identified in the School Plan. | ||||
