| CATCHMENT AREA: Greenfields Primary School caters for the educational needs of students from the Greenfields housing area, the western section of the Elizabeth and the Orchid Heights area. A subdivision of the east of the school has not provided any children as yet, although more houses are being built and an impact on enrolment could still result. Four year olds are now catered for on-site with two purpose built centres. THE SCHOOL: Greenfields was opened in 1990 with 14 regular classes and one designated pre primary centre. By 1994 the school had mushroomed to 23 classes, nine of which were transportable rooms. Numbers dropped in 1995 with the opening of Riverside school and the temporary rooms were removed. During 1996 a designed pre primary transportable was installed for use in 1997. In 1999 a purpose built Kindergarten was added to the site and a purpose built Ed Support Wing was added during March 2000. Another Kindergarten was added for the opening of the 2001 school year. The school has 15 purpose built classrooms and 4 transportable classrooms. It is equipped with purpose built music, art and resource rooms. Our computer laboratory operates from the library resource centre. All teaching areas are cabled for our computer network. There are 17 computers in the laboratory and each classroom has 2 or 3 computers for student use. We have an ample supply of TV's and video's, digital cameras, video camera, an automated library system and extensive curricula support materials for maths, reading, science and physical education. There are 299 families making up the school population, including 32 Aboriginal children. The Pre Primary is fulltime and the Kindergarten operates for four days per week. There are large grassed areas on the school site, which are serviced by a bore. There are basketball and netball courts, an adventure playground and a large undercover area suitable for assemblies and games. The school is fully air-conditioned. There is a commitment to build the school's image in the eyes of the community. Plans are in place for this to occur. COMMUNITY SUPPORT: Greenfields has a small, but active P&C Association which has contributed significantly to school resource acquisition. Its fund raising activities include discos, fetes, raffles and canteen sales. Many parents and volunteers are actively engaged in the learning programs, while others work on fundraising committees or support the school financially by attending functions and buying raffle tickets. COMMUNITY USE OF RESOURCES: * P&C meetings * School Council * Sporting Groups SCHOOL SUPPORT: The Peel/Fremantle District Offices provides support to the school in the areas of - psychology, behaviour management, curriculum planning and implementation, student welfare, learning technologies, Aboriginal liaison, financial planning and management and professional development. Further support is available from the school nurse, a pediatric team, and various community welfare agencies. VOLUNTEERS: The school is well supported by the P&C and parent volunteers who fill many roles in the school. Examples of this diversity include: reading support, art/craft support, resource maintenance and orgainsation, assisting students and parents with computers, excursions and special events assistance, eg camps and carnivals. The school is fortunate to have the services of the School Volunteer Program, with workers who mentor students experiencing social or learning problems on an individual basis. PARENTS & CITIZENS ASSOCIATION: 2005 Committee - President, Vice President Secretary and Treasurer. The school P&C meets approximately twice per term. Meetings are used as a forum to discuss education issues and to organise fundraising to support the educational initiatives with the school.
