| Gooseberry Hill Primary School is located approximately 20 kilometres from the CBD in a unique setting with nearby national parks and local reserves and is often frequented by a range of bird life and native wildlife. The school has been established for over thirty years and during this time has created an enviable record of being a nurturing school, committed to excellence and supported by a caring community. The experienced school staff have been at the school for many years and have developed a real sense of community and commitment to the school. Our school community is involved in a range of environmental programs such as adopting the care of Huntley Street Nature Reserve, supporting the Ledger Street Community Group and entering into a compact with Kanyana Native Animal Hospital. This has had an impact on the programs offered in the school - the Environmental Centre within the school grounds is becoming a vital part of the daily program. The Visual Arts Program is an integral part of our whole school program with programs being arranged to support class activities. Students from this program continue to have success winning scholarships to the special Arts program at Kalamunda SHS. Our Performing Arts Program has been a focus over the last two years and students have successfully participated in Wakakirri. The choir and band have performed at assemblies throughout the year and at Kalamunda Central as part of their Christmas program. Students in year 3 have access to violin through the School of Instrumental Music and selected students in Year 6 and 7 have access to tuition in Trumpet, Guitar and Flute through this program. The school has strengthened the focus on the Mathematics and Science Learning Areas by offering an after school program twice a week for students with a high interest in science and this will continue in 2008. In addition to our school sports program, funding has been obtained from the Department of Sport & Recreation to run an after school sports program with a focus on skill development and fitness with coaching being provided in basketball, athletics, hockey, fitness games and football. A feature of this school is the collaborative partnerships developed between the parent community and the expectation from and of parents that they will contribute to the fabric of the school. | ||||

| Gooseberry Hill is a fantastic school that successfully creates a community of students, parents and teachers. The pride shown in the school is amazing to see and the students graduate confident, happy and successful. Excellent leadership from Principal and Deputy. | it is a shame that the students tend to separate off into a wide range of Secondary schools. It would be wonderful to see them all move on to Secondary Education with this supportive peer group. | Great standard of education, supported by the school community, environmentally conscious and innovative. | ||
