Girrawheen Primary School is located 20 km north of Perth in the centre of the suburb of Girrawheen. The school was established in 1975. It has extensive grounds with large shady trees, grassed play areas; a large grassed oval, modern playground equipment and natural vegetation. An Administration upgrade was completed in 1999 and all buildings are air-conditioned.

The school enrolment is approximately 300 children from Kindergarten to Year 7. An off site playgroup for 3 year old children is also operating. The school population is multicultural with 25 percent Vietnamese and 30 percent from other cultures.

The academic program includes access to a specialist Physical Education teacher, and an ACHPER award winning After School Sport program. There is a specialist music program and LOTE commenced in 1998 with Spanish being taught to all children in Year 3-7. The 'You Can Do It' programme will commence in 2005. There is an emphasis on pastoral care, inclusivity and teaching the students responsibility, which has led to the school gaining an outstanding reputation in the district.

A new Library Resource Centre opened in 2000 and contains 20 networked computers, digital cameras, video recorders, laptops and a data projector to enable the students to utilise state of the art technology through an ICT support programme. It also contains an extensive range of teaching and child resources.

Girrawheen Primary School is part of the ESL cell and has an ESL teacher and Vietnamese assistant. This allows the school to provide language and cultural support to ESL children and their families.

There is a small but active P&C which is committed to assisting the school by fund raising and running special events.
