Fremantle Primary School is located in the centre of Fremantle, Western Australia's bustling and vibrant port city. Fremantle's history is the oldest and most diverse in the State. The unique environment that surrounds our school enables us to make regular use of a wealth of cultural, historical and business opportunities that allow great enhancement of our school curriculum.

2004 marked the 100th birthday of our school. We began as Fremantle Infants and Intermediate school before becoming South Terrace School and Alma Street Infants School in 1927. The original school buildings can still be seen within the hospital grounds. In the 1960's we moved to our current site as South Terrace Primary School, before becoming Fremantle Primary School in 2001.

Fremantle Primary has a highly experienced staff that are committed to improving student outcomes and dedicated to providing a stimulating learning environment. Staff include specialist Art, Music, Italian and Physical Education teachers. A staff member acts as Student At Education Risk Coordinator. All staff are actively involved in the decision making processes at the school.

Our school motto is learning ,fun and friendship and the many programs operating at the school ensure students experience all three!! Special programs include instrumental music, morning fitness, leadership programs, Primary Extension and Academic Challenge, and Rock and Water. Students are provided with many opportunities to be involved in community events including art displays, musical performances, street parties, and parades.

In 2007 the total school enrolment will be approximately 280 students. We have classes for four-year-old kindergarten through to year seven students. Our offsite kindergarten centre is located across the road from the school.

The school grounds are very attractive and have been improved in recent years. Several murals decorate the school and a sea mural welcomes visitors and can be seen from Alma Street. Our heritage garden is included in the Fremantle Ghost Tours program, and the recently completed kindy grounds create a wonderful shaded outdoor play area. Our new undercover area, preprimary play area and canteen were completed in 2005 and have revitalised the school grounds. Development plans include a major overhaul of all classroom and school storage facilities, the establishment of a permaculture garden, and landscaping across the school.

As the school in 'the heart of Fremantle' community involvement at Fremantle Primary is important to us. Our active P&C organises many social fundraisers throughout the year including movie nights, fashion parades, discos and other family events. A group of parents form a very active and supportive grounds committee. We have a School Council that meets twice a term, and many parents are involved in the grounds development at the school.

Each year the school produces an Annual Report that provides members of the school community with information about the school's progress and makes recommendations for the future. These recommendations form the basis of the School Improvement Plan which includes information about the strategies and resources needed to meet our goals. This planning is conducted by staff with parent involvement.

Overall:
great music program for our kids, the music teacher is probably the best in the statesome old fashioned teachers and not a big focus on acadamic excellence, or excellence in anything actuallythe school would be great if it was better organised and recognised the kids for excellence in different things

Overall:
Experienced teachers who are willing to stop and chat to parents. Lots of variety with kids and parents from a whole range of different backgrounds and experiences. The buildings are very old and in need of renovation. Not a lot of green grassy oval space for kids to run around on.It's a good government school but keep in mind it isn't an alternative and shouldn't be treated as one.

Overall:
  • The music teacher is one of a kind.
  • The new fence between the carpark and oval.
  • The undercover area.
  • The Secetary is one fo the best, very caring and always has a smile.

  • Does not promote Reconcilliation.
  • Does not involve/engage with the Indigenous community.
  • No/limited teaching of Nyoongar culture.
  • A minority of teachers come across as un- approachable.
  • No friend bench - where students sit if they have no-one to play with and someone will come along and engage them in a game.
  • Picking up children after school is a nightmare due to non-existent pick up area.

  • Its a small school and has a community to feel to it.
  • It has come a long way in creating a safe environemnt (old car park in the school turned into grass area for students to play).
