Endeavour, excellence and co-operation are highly valued and practised ideals at the core of Esperance Primary School's ethos. Even though the school is situated 700 km from Perth on the beautiful south-east coast of WA, it is very much at the forefront of many educational initiatives that have the welfare of our students at heart.

To this end the whole school community has embraced co-operative learning strategies across all learning areas and devised an innovative thinking skills program that is embedded in the outcomes focused curriculum that teachers deliver.
Staff are committed to ensuring students are effective team players equipped with the necessary skills to respond and adapt to changes in society which will allow them to lead successful and rewarding lives.
Esperance Primary's unenviable record of representing WA nine times and being national winners on two occasions in an Australia wide team problem solving competition, 'Tournament of Minds', demonstrates the effectiveness of the school's focus in this area.

The stable and experienced staff ensures the curriculum is relevant and meets the needs of all students. Over the years the parent community have nominated a number of our teachers for the Teacher of the Year Awards of Excellence.
The school has a very highly regarded PEAC (Primary Extension & Challenge) program and a very supportive SAER (Students at Educational Risk) program operating. The SAER program and curriculum initiatives were recognised in 2004 with a National Literacy Award for the significant improvements made by SAER students and in particular our targeted group of boys with their literacy levels. Each year state wide testing shows that students at Esperance Primary consistently perform above the state average and above schools of a similar socio-economic index.

Esperance Primary School is situated close to the centre of town with attractive play areas and two grassed ovals that give students plenty of room to play a range of modified games. The school population of 440 K - 7 children, of mostly town dwelling students and 86 farm based children, is stable with the majority of families valuing and involved in their children's education.

Esperance Primary School has a proud tradition of promoting a Healthy Active Lifestyle. The school has been a leader in the BASC programme and in 1999 won two categories in the Governor General Active Lifestyle State Awards.
An integral part of the school is the Heart Beat Skipping team, which is the longest existing demonstration team in the state. In 2005 the school was awarded a Level 5 certificate in recognition of the amount raised for Heart Research making it the only school in the state to be afforded this distinction. The school's before school Fitness group is popular with students and parents alike as is the School choir that participates regularly in the town's Music Festival with exceptional results.

The school values its close working relationship with parents and the wider community. This exists on many levels with parents actively involved as representatives on the School Council, P&C, the uniform shop, Clubs, Canteen, as volunteers in the SAER Parent Support program and many assist on a weekly basis in their children's classes.

Esperance Primary School's very positive tone and the high regard it is held in the wider community can be attributed not only to the quality teaching of the caring, professional staff but the shared beliefs and support of families in providing the best education possible for all children.
