| SCHOOL OVERVIEW Embleton Primary is located on the corner of Priestley Street and Collier Road in Embleton. The school was established in 1961 in the middle of a new state housing suburb and in the past held a student population of over 900. Being so close to the city land prices have increased in value. This has increased cost of rental properties forcing some families to move from the area. Other blocks have been subdivided with building being undertaken by those without primary aged students as evident by our current enrolment of 154 students. The school is also home to the offices of the School Safety House Program for this area, and loans space to Durham Road School for their kindergarten and primary education support unit. Swan SPER facilities are also housed in a building separate from the main body of the school. The school has four main cultures represented with approximately 21.25% being English as a Second Language background. Students from Vietnamese and Chinese speaking families make up approximately 15% of the total school population. Indigenous students make up approximately 18% of the student population Embleton Primary has off-site kindergarten and an on-site pre-primary unit. The off-site kindy is located 400m from the main campus, in McKenzie Road and runs a sessional program four mornings a week. The teaching staff are extremely experienced with 150 years or more teaching experience between them. We also have five senior teachers. These are teachers who demonstrated exceptional teaching skills and are awarded this position through an evaluation process by a panel of superordinates. An extensive behaviour management policy is in place that focuses on the many positives exhibited. Some of the strategies used include: * Focus on values across the whole school * The use of Virtues Vouchers * Behave be in it cycle * Communicating with parents both positives and negatives Bullying and other anti social behaviours are not tolerated. Many innovative and exciting programs are in currently in place for students. Some of these include: * Intensive physical fitness program combining the whole school * Values Education * Walk to School Safely program * AUSKICK * Italian * Music * Literacy Block * Getting it Right Literacy * Anti Bullying Education * Healthy eating focus Embleton Primary School enjoys the support of the parent body with satisfaction surveys returning very positive results. Embleton School Community Beliefs about Teaching and Learning * All children and young people are capable of learning. * Students learn in different ways and their learning programs need to recognise this. * The teacher is a critical factor in a child's learning success. * Teaching needs to foster students taking responsibility for their own learning and setting challenging yet realistic goals for improvement. * Effective pedagogy is purposeful, challenging and connected to a student's experience, stage of development and background. | ||||
