| Ellenbrook Primary School Profile 1. THE NATURE OF THE SCHOOL'S CATCHMENT: Ellenbrook Primary School is in a rapidly growing suburb on the north eastern edge of the Perth metropolitan region. At the start of 2003, the population of Ellenbrook was 7,000 people, and it is now over 17,000. The suburb is expected to grow to over 20,000. Ellenbrook PS is the oldest, largest and most established primary school of the schools in the area. The school is classified as a 'local intake' school that means that it only enrols students who are resident in its catchment. The catchment covers the subdivisions of Woodlake, Morgan Fields, Vale and Henley Brook. It should be noted that all subdivisions south of Gnangarra Road are optional areas and parents can place their children in the government school of their choice. In 2004, a new government primary school was built adjoining in Charlotte's Vineyard (Arbor Grove Primary School) subdivision, and in 2008 the new Ellen Stirling Primary School opened. 2. STAFFING PROFILE: The important thing for the school community is that teachers are highly skilled in a variety of pedagogic practices and are able to relate to the students and their parents. All of the teachers in this school are qualified and registered by WACOT. 3. SPECIAL FEATURES: Ellenbrook PS aims to give every student a balanced education as is described in the school's vision and purpose statement. The Ellenbrook PS purpose and vision were negotiated with parents and teachers, as a part of a school renewal process, on 10 November 2000 and it was agreed that the school's vision would be: We have a dream that as a school community our children will have equal opportunity to reach their full potential according to their individual needs and the needs of a changing society. PURPOSE STATEMENT: At Ellenbrook PS we will prepare students for life long learning by providing a positive, caring and cooperative environment that promotes: * Equality * Respect * Creativity * Self-esteem and * The pursuit of personal excellence. 4. SCHOOL DECISION MAKING AND CONSULTATION: The school has a very active and supportive P&C and School Council. The school principal, deputies and staff work closely with the parents and parent-bodies. Daily interaction between members of the school community means that there are no surprises and issues are addressed as they arise. 5. MAJOR CHALLENGES: A. The school competes with three good private schools for students and we focus on the needs of our client base to ensure that we keep market share for the public school system. Ellenbrook PS staff is constantly challenged in developing learning and teaching to optimise students' learning and parents appreciate the quality of education that we offer. B. The compact school site houses new purpose built classrooms (which the P&C have air-conditioned). C. There is a degree of stability in the student population and staff work hard to maintain a safe, friendly and learning environment for their students. 6. SCHOOL HISTORY The school opened as the first school in houses in Western Australian in 1996. The school grew quickly and it moved to its current site in Fortescue Place in 1998. In 2000, Ellenbrook PS developed the new Coolamon Primary School on its site in 2000 and administered it when it moved to schools in offices at the end of that year. Ellenbrook PS now consists of 23 classrooms on the Woodlake site. 7. CHANGES IN THE FUTURE. It is expected that the school will continue to grow at a slow rate as new houses are developed in the Aveley subdivision. Dr Neil MacNeill M.Ed.Admin; M.Ed.; Ph.D. Principal | ||||

| Really love this school. Have 3 that attend. Moved my eldest from another local school with poor facilities and a victim of bullying to here. School has instrumental music program, gifted and talented student program (for yr 6s), school camps in yr 5 & 6, canteen, hard working/involved P&C, well resourced library, begin teaching jolly phonics in Kindy, an impressive preprimary curriculum as well as fantastic deputy principals who listen and take immediate action on inappropriate behaviour and any parental concerns. | Language any than english class (LOTE) would be better if language other than Italian was offered. All teachers have been fantastic bar one senior school teacher. My experience is that she was inappropriately negative, critical, insulting and basically a bully to the children in her care (bar a few) though when requested the Head staff were quick in actioning the moving of children from the class as requested by any concerned parents. | No problems with school yard bullying. Children have lunch in class then have year rostered days on playground equipment. Run 'Blue Earth' each day which is an exercise program designed for children of all fitness levels that involves basic yoga type stretches which I feel help improve the childrens focus and ability to perform well in class. Great facilities and education provided. My children have all thrived in this school environment. Would recommend. | ||
