| Eddystone Primary School is located in the suburb of Heathridge, approximately 25 kilometres north of Perth. The school opened in 1986 and has grown into a well-resourced facility with a strong focus on caring, support and student learning. Facilities at the school include a large oval, two multi-purpose hard surface playing areas (basketball / tennis courts) netball courts, covered assembly area, amphitheatre/stage area (utilised for dance and drama performances) and a well stocked resource centre. The library facility is a feature of the school. It has thousands of resources aimed at all year levels and interesting displays which are constantly being updated. The library is home to twelve computers connected to the Internet, and the 'Eddystone Learning Network'. The school has recently installed an extensive computer network which sees all teaching areas able to access workstations for individuals, groups and whole classes. Broadband Internet connections are available at all workstations. Eddystone Primary School offers an extensive music program. The school employs a music teacher in addition to specialist teachers from the Department of Education and Training who take groups of Year Six and Year Seven students wishing to learn the clarinet and flute. The school also has a band and two choirs. Tuition is also available for students interested in learning Keyboard and Guitar. The school also offers specialist teaching programs in Physical Education, Art and Indonesian in addition to parent subsidised programs in Dance, Drama and Kinesiology. An Education Support Unit (ESU) is incorporated in the school. ESU students arrive by bus from surrounding suburbs and are active included participants in the whole school learning and social programs. The Pre Primary area has an Early Childhood team that runs programs for Kindergarten students who are able to attend up to two full day sessions per week, as well as Pre Primary students who are able to attend up to five full days per week. School policies and programs for Managing Student Behaviour (including Bullying) are supported by Peer Mediation and buddy programs which are monitored by the Principal, the Student Services Deputy Principal and supported by all members of staff. The school has an established culture of staff involvement in management committees and cost centres with the Principal, two teaching Deputy Principals and staff members sharing leadership roles in curriculum and operational committees. Parent involvement in school programs is encouraged at all levels including classroom rosters and assistance, Parents and Citizen's Association and the Eddystone Primary School Council. The school also operates a Student Council which promotes leadership roles for students and provides a forum for student views and initiatives to be heard. | ||||
