The East Hamersley Primary School was established in 1979. The fully air conditioned school is centred in a residential area bounded by Beach Road to the North, Wanneroo Road to the East, Erindale Road to the West and the Reid Highway to the South. The campus is attractive with shading from mature native trees and shrubs. The building clusters are connected by covered walkways and are enhanced by attractive, well-maintained gardens and lawn areas.

The school accepts children from all areas provided it can meet their educational needs. All teaching staff in the school are experienced and committed to delivering a structured learning program to enhance students' academic, sporting, cultural and social attributes. Staff are committed to a coordinated approach to the implementation of the Curriculum Framework and outcomes focused education, based on the needs of all students.

The school has a Music Specialist and trains a choir of Years 3 - 7 children. All children undertake Computer classes under the guidance of a specialist Information Technology teacher. All children from Year 3 to 7 take lessons in Indonesian through a visiting Indonesian language teacher.

The school's cluster of buildings consists of the two teaching clusters, a library resource, an undercover area and school canteen, Early Childhood Centre, a Specialist Block and Administration block. The two teaching clusters contain 4 double learning areas (classrooms), TV room, Mathematics Area, Art Centre and a Reading room.

The specialist cluster includes a state of the art Computer laboratory, the Music room and the Sport Equipment Centre.

Our Early Childhood Area is situated at the front of the school. This area is the site for the Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students. Through the hard work of the school and its community , the school received a grant for the extension of the Pre-Primary centre. Our brand new Kindergarten classroom was recently opened and it caters for 20 Kindergarten students.

Attached to the undercover area is a purpose built canteen. It is managed by the Parents & Citizens' (P&C) Association. The canteen is open for lunches and morning recesses on one day a week. The P&C employs a manager to conduct the canteen together with volunteer parent help. The school has a strong commitment to students wearing the attractive school uniform. These uniforms are sold from the canteen.

A well-resourced Computer Learning Technologies program runs in all classrooms. Equipment is purchased annually to continually improve and expand our commitment to technology, enhancing the learning program. Internet connections are available to provide resources from the World Wide Web and e-mail is used to communicate locally and internationally.

Primary classes are structured to compliment the school commitment to SAER (Students at Educational Risk) and TAGS (Talented and Gifted Students). The grouping of ages and small numbers allows teachers to tailor programs to suit individual student needs.

Support time is offered for those students experiencing difficulties, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy. Small groups of students are taken for individual instruction and assistance each day of the school week. Extra funding through the Commonwealth Literacy and Numeracy program is made available for this to occur.

In Year 7 students are given the opportunity to lead and manage their peers in various sporting and school activities. The Student Council Head Boy and Girl are supported by Councillors, Sports Faction Captains and Vice Captains. This student Council meets weekly to undertake a number of organizational roles and to enhance the school's ethos and purpose.

The School conducts Staff Meetings outside of school hours twice each term. Communication meetings are held weekly and Professional Development Days are held each term. All staff are responsible for managing various aspects of curriculum delivery. The school is committed to inclusive decision-making.

Parents are welcome at all times, be it to discuss concerns, offer suggestions or assist in the many sporting and cultural activities the school offers. In addition to informal meetings with teachers, various after hours functions are held where parents are informed of policy and direction. Parent/teacher/student interviews are conducted at the end of Term 1 and Term 3, to discuss student progress. A Portfolio is sent home for Kindergarten and Pre-Primary at the end of Term 1, 2, 3, and 4. Years K to 7 receive a formal report at the end of Semester 1 and 2.

A very active Parents and Citizens' Association meets twice each term. Committees for fundraising, canteen management and publicity meet regularly.

The East Hamersley School Council consists of ten members. The Principal plus representatives from the parent and the staff body. The Council has allocated a position for a community representative. The Council meets once a term and more often if required. The Council reviews and determines school policy and planning. Council members are invited to participate in School Development Planning days and also have a representative on the School Finance Committee.

The health and well being of its students and staff is of paramount importance. We endevour to provide a respectful, caring, equitable and secure environment, where all stakeholders feel they have made a contribution and have a sense of belonging.
