| East Beechboro Primary School is a Level 5 school within the Swan Education District of the Department of Education and Training, Western Australia. The school opened in 1979 and is presently the community-learning centre for approximately 400 children, from Kindergarten to Year 7. A staff of 21 professional educators and 10 support staff, all of whom recognise parents as prime educators, care for these children. Professionals in associated fields such as psychology, social work, speech therapy, occupational therapy, curriculum and visiting teacher services provide valuable support to our endeavours to attend to the needs of all children. Included within our student numbers are approximately 40 children of Aboriginal descent, and 67 children of other cultural backgrounds. We are also pleased to be able to cater for the needs of a number of children with disabilities. The school is of an open design with three clusters of classrooms (one of which contains a sophisticated computing laboratory), an administration block, a purpose built library resource centre and two pre-primary units. The buildings are set in pleasant surroundings and adjoin a large local park/oval area (Maguire Park). Other facilities include a covered assembly area, canteen, basketball/netball courts and adventure playgrounds. This school operates from the understanding that it is only through working together in a partnership of mutual respect and purpose that optimal learning and development will occur. The basis of our school is a commitment to the importance of quality relationships, upon which a safe, happy and productive learning environment will continue to grow. Parents take an active role in our school whether this is as School Council representatives, members of our P&C or as volunteers that support the school. They are consulted on school decisions, informed of progress and issues and offered opportunities to both commend the school and to offer suggestions for improvement. Our activities are based upon the needs of our students, the Plan of the Department of Education and Training and the objectives of the Swan Education District. School programs offered include Languages other than English (Indonesian), music, school choir, and physical education. Every effort is made to ensure our educational programs are inclusive with curriculum adaptations made to cater for students with learning difficulties and those identified as talented and gifted. East Beechboro has a commitment to values throughout the curriculum using the Virtues Guide and a whole of school incentive program. Great importance is placed on providing opportunities for students to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes to contribute successfully to a rapidly changing society. The school contributes to the community by promoting Active Citizenship, throughout 2006 as a school we have: * Sponsoring a child: World Famine UNICEF * Collecting resources for schools in Cambodia. * Collecting food hampers for local charity * Collaborating with the local 'Catchment' Group to propagate plants for environmental revegetation programs. Students also contribute to the community through the school Nursery project, propagating plants for the school gardens and the local Catchment Group. Our community school will continue to develop as a learning centre where parents and all staff function as partners in education. Special mention must be made of our committed P&C and the parent members of our School Council. | ||||
