| Duncraig Primary is a very child-centred school. The school focuses on developing children's confidence and independence as learners by providing opportunities: *to be problem solvers *to set and monitor learning goals *to work independently and in groups *to plan activities, and *to have success speaking to small and large groups The school motto is ' Endeavour' and the entire school community encourages children to do their best in all school activities. All of the teaching staff are enthusiastic and dedicated educators and work collaboratively. The school offers full-time pre-compulsory education in the Pre-Primary/Year 1 mixed age groups. There is a Kindergarten (four year olds) program at the Marri Road Centre near the school. Many classes have mixed age groups and all classes are arranged geographically so that each child may benefit from social and academic contact with children of different ages. The Parents and Citizens' Association is very active. Parent involvement in school activities is welcomed and the concept of community is promoted within the school. The specialist programs are Music and Physical Education. In-term swimming is offered for students in Pre-Primary to Year 7. French is taught in Years 3 to 7. The school participates in the Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) program (Years 5 to 7). There is a daily fitness program, Saturday Netball for girls (organised by parents ), interschool sports (Upper Primary) and Athletics carnivals. Instrumental tuition in Flute, clarinet, classical guitar and brass are offered to selected students in Years 6 and 7. There is a school choir. Ballroom Dancing is offered to children in Years 2 to 7. The canteen provides low cost and nutritious food on three days per week. The well resourced library has computerised borrowing. Computers are available in every class and are networked to the library. Access to the Internet is provided in Years Pre-Primary to Year 7. There is a small computer laboratory for Lego Logo (Years 4-7). Special Programs and Projects (school based) consist of: A Buddies System, School Choir, First Steps Language, Multi-Aged Grouping Project , Performance Indicators in Primary Schools On Entry Baseline Assessment (PIPS), Primary Extension And Challenge (PEAC) Program, Primary Investigations, School Of Instrumental Music Tuition for musical instruments and support throughout the school for Students at Educational Risk. Day care is available privately before and after school. Buses collect day care children each day. | ||||
