| LOCALITY School Classification: Level 4 Primary School Dawson Park Primary School is located within the suburb of Forrestfield in the shire of Kalamunda and the Canning Education District.CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY The school is composed of 299 students and 22 teaching and non-teaching staff. The cultural background of the students is predominantly Anglo European. The school is set in an area with low-density housing which is for the most part owner-occupied. The local area is well resourced with recreational community facilities. The school is and integral part of the community. It is well regarded and valued. This is evident by high levels of involvement of parents and the wider community in school programs and activities.COMMUNITY Dawson Park Primary School is situated in an average socio economic area. Most students have a home environment conducive to effective learning and have experienced many of the normal interactions that can be expected to occur in typical social receptive environments. Most homes have adequate resources for incidental learning to take place and for gathering the necessary information for tasks associated with the primary curriculum. The school has established links with: * The School Psychological Services as part of their normal school role and also by utilising the Psychologists services outside normal allocated times to assist in parenting and self esteem programmes. * School Nurse to address problems associated with the circumstances mentioned above. * Disabilities Branch * Speech Therapy Branch * Department of Family and Children's Services through both discussions and referring cases.
