| Dalmain Primary School provides a welcoming, inclusive environment where there is an expectation that everyone will work towards achieving their potential; show respect for themselves and others; have social, civic and environmental responsibility and take pride in their school. The school opened in 1990 and is one of four primary schools in the northern suburb of Kingsley. The school has a student population of approximately 300 students supported by a dedicated, dynamic and professional staff. Student numbers ensure a capacity to be large enough to offer diverse programs yet small enough to have a close relationship with students. The school is renowned for its attractive grounds and gardens. In 2006, after extensive community consultation, the school grounds were fenced to reduce the incidence of vandalism and graffiti. This has proved to be most successful. Other improvements have occurred over time due to the proactive involvement of key staff in attracting federal and state grants for facilities such as playgrounds, furniture, carpets and computer equipment. The teachers ensure their classrooms reflect the standard expected by the community and provide an appealing working environment for the students. Dalmain students reflect the values of their community. They are considerate and respectful of themselves, others and the environment. They are diligent in their pursuit of knowledge and strive for academic excellence at all times. The anti-bullying policy of the school ensures a happy school with the rights of all students respected. The school has a dress code which is adhered to by the school community. The students study Japanese in Years 1 - 7. Dalmain has specialist teachers in music and the visual arts. The school has a strong focus in physical education where the school competes in several sporting arenas, including long distance running. The school's achievements are well beyond expectations considering our student numbers. The school actively promotes the need for a strong public education system, and supports an outcomes based approach to education as being the only viable means of meeting the needs of children in today's society. Learning programs, developed collaboratively by the staff, are considered by schools in the district to be exemplars in curriculum and assessment. The four Kingsley schools share a Community Liaison Officer (CLO) to assist with the care of our students. Students know they can speak to the CLO about their issues and are given strategies to help them find solutions. The staff of Dalmain Primary School formed a Pastoral Care Committee in 2003 and this group meets regularly to plan, and assist students who are at risk, socially and emotionally. A close working relationship exists between the students, staff and the parents. The school community is actively involved in programs at the school. Staff and parents have been recognised for their outstanding work in the Support a Reader/Writer program. The School Council comprises the principal, two staff and four parents. It meets at the end of each term to monitor and review the school's performance in all areas of operation. The Parents' and Citizen's Association (P&C) is active with numerous sub-committees operating effectively. The P&C, in partnership with the staff and school community, has raised funds to provide for air conditioning in the classrooms. Dalmain Primary School takes responsibility for involving parents in the programs by conducting regular parent information sessions whenever new school or system initiatives are being instituted. | ||||
