Currambine Primary School -'Together Towards Tomorrow' and Striving to be 'The Best School in the Nation.'

Currambine is the Aboriginal meaning for 'Place of Hard Rock.' The school is situated on high ground with views of the Indian Ocean to the West and the spectacular Darling Ranges to the East.

Currambine Primary School is located in the northern suburbs of Perth in the Joondalup area. The school opened in 1997 with approximately 300 children and the population has grown to 865 children. The school was reclassified as a level six school at the start of 2003.

The school prides it self on being culturally diverse. The majority of students are Australian but a large number of students have enrolled from South Africa and the United Kingdom. There are children from Asia and other African countries.

The school has excellent facilities, including three teaching blocks and a fully enclosed and carpeted undercover area. This makes assemblies and incursions comfortable, enjoyable and relaxing. Within the undercover area is a school canteen, which operates five days per week and is currently being outsourced by the school. There are separate buildings for Administration, the Library and staffroom. Each Teaching Area has a minimum of two computers and the school boasts a new computer laboratory. All the teaching blocks are networked with Internet access.

Currambine primary School grounds are attractive thanks to an active grounds committee. There are numerous shade structures around the school to protect our children from the effects of our hot Australian sun. The committee has planted numerous trees and purchased play equipment as well as a great fitness track on the school oval. The oval is adjacent to a community oval that is maintained by the City of Joondalup. There is a double basketball/netball court and two cricket nets.

Students study the French language from Pre Primary through to Year 7. This allows students to communicate in languages other than English. It helps students to gain an understanding of other societies, and the ability to interact with people of other cultures.

The school has two active choirs who perform at the Government Schools Make Music Concert, West Coast Warblers and the Joondalup Eisteddford.

Each year students from team four participate in the Joondalup Festival. This allows students to develop their art skills by designing and making costumes and being able to use them for a real purpose.

The school student care and support policy encourages students to make positive choices. The policy is flexible to accommodate children with special behavioural and educational needs. Outstanding behaviour has been acknowledged consistently through such things as homeroom and team awards, merit awards and Assembly Stars who are recognised at assemblies. Student Councillors and School Ambassadors are groups where students are recognised for their leadership skills. There is membership to the Quiet Achiever Club, which involves sleepovers, lunches, movie visits and pizza and video nights. Students participate in a Treasure Hunt at the end of each term as a reward for good behaviour in the playground and in class.

Currambine Primary Schoolis a merit select school. This includes all staff and the principal. All teachers who accept their appointment at the school are committed to working as part of a team and plan collaboratively, using developmental learning strategies and other teaching approaches.

The ethos and philosophy of Currambine Primary School is being implemented through the FLECS program. The FLECS (Flexible Learning Experiences in a Collaborative Structure) Program involves team and collaborative teaching utilising successful developmental methods as First Steps Continua and Student Outcome Statements. Teachers use professional judgement to determine best teaching strategies across the learning areas.

At Currambine Primary School there is a committed Parents and Citizens' Association Committee and School Council. They are motivated, active and progressive committees and are continually supportive of parents as partners in education.
