| (As at second semester 2006) Location Cranbrook Primary School is situated in the rural town of Cranbrook, in the great southern region of Western Australia. It was opened in 1893 and celebrated its centenary on 2 October, 1993. The land is rural, sheep and cattle raising with crops being the major industries. Approximately 55% of the students live 'out of town'. The farming families have a family tradition of settlement in the area. There is a positive interaction with other schools in our district for various sports carnivals and tabloid days. These schools include: Frankland, Kendenup, Tambellup Primary Schools and St. Bernard's Catholic School (Kojonup). Cranbrook PS combines with Tambellup PS to coordinate an annual Year 6/7. This enables the two schools to enjoy visiting Rottnest Island one year (2006), and an Adventure Camp the next year (2007). Professional Development also features regularly with these school's staffs. Demographics Currently there are 75 students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 7. The students are accommodated in four classrooms which take the form of K/P/1, 2/3, 4/5, 6/7. Classroom programs are supported by Physical Education and LOTE - Italian. The school has five teaching staff, a registrar, two Education Assistants, and a part time Library Officer, Gardener and Cleaner. The staff works well as a team and is highly committed to the welfare of the students and the implementation of school and departmental priorities. School Resources Students enjoy a safe and secure learning environment and extensive play areas with new playground equipment currently being installed, with soft fall landing. Classes visit a well resourced library weekly for book borrowing, and a room is dedicated to house 14 internet capable computers. In each classroom there are at least two networked computers, a digital camera and colour printer, all intended for student use. Cranbrook Primary School offers a balanced curriculum with an outcomes approach providing breadth and depth to learning experiences. Provision of a comprehensive SAER program and a Learning Support Coordinator ensures that Individual Education Programs are an integral part of learning programs across the school. Special Features Cranbrook Primary School is a 'Crunch and Sip School', 'Asthma Friendly', 'Sun Smart' and 'Peanut Free'. It caters for all students with provision of a variety of programs including PEAC, participation in interschool speech and drama competition, swimming, cross country, winter carnival events and athletics. Student development is further enriched with a whole school Daily Fitness Program. The K/P/1 class has re-established best practice in early intervention strategies by including ADOLF oral language screening and learning program and strategies for the early childhood years. The school has exquisite gardens that are a feature not only of the school but also the community. The buildings are linear with an enclosed verandah and a large undercover area. The Kindergarten/Pre-primary centre area has an enclosed verandah area allowing for indoor play. One of the major challenges for the school is the remoteness, in relative terms, to many of the schools in the Albany Education District. Priority Country Area Program (PCAP) funding assists with subsidising the cost of student activities to ensure that our students are not disadvantaged through geographic isolation. Community The school community is engaged and proactive. The School Council consists of one staff member, three parent representatives and the Principal. This group meets at least once a term and plays a pivotal role in the development of the school plan, policy formation and school accountability. The Parents and Citizens Association meets at least once a term and supports the school with a variety of fund raising exercises throughout the year and focuses on improving school facilities. The P&C and parent community are supportive of the school. A breakfast ('Breakfast at the Brook') is held at the start of Term 1 each year, for parents, students and community members. Parent help is promoted and encouraged at sporting events, busy bees and within the classroom through an organised timetable of volunteers. The school also benefits through involvement in the School Volunteer Program, receiving support from mentors from the wider community. A great family tradition exists at Cranbrook Primary School. Many school events have a tradition, such as graduation, sporting events and carnivals. | ||||
