| The School Coorow Primary School is situated in a well-established agricultural area of the Mid West region of Western Australia, 279 kms north of Perth on the Midlands Road. The school was established in 1930 and has close ties with its community. The economy of the town relies mainly on farming and small businesses. Statement of School Purpose Taking up the Challenge The purpose of Coorow Primary School is to provide a quality education for all students. Students should develop their full potential in academic, social, physical, cultural, creative and practical areas, and be equipped to meet the challenges of a changing society. The Department of Education and Training's Purpose Our purpose is to ensure that all government school students and all adults have an ongoing opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to achieve their individual potential and contribute to the social and economic development of Western Australia. The vision for government school education in Western Australia is clear. We want all students in our schools to achieve the highest standards of learning possible so that they are equipped to deal effectively with the opportunities and challenges they encounter in a changing world. We want them to be enthusiastic about learning, in safe and supportive learning environments. We want motivated and capable teachers and school leaders, who feel valued and supported in their work School Enrolment Profile Coorow Primary School has been established for 70 years with student numbers over the last two years steadily declining. Of 44 students currently enrolled, 25 live on farms, with the remaining 19 students residing in the town. There are 27 families with students attending the school. Staff profile There are five teachers and a teaching Principal at Coorow Primary School. This includes a teacher of Japanese, who is based at Carnamah District High School and delivers one 80 minute lesson to the Years 4, 5, 6 and 7 students, then one 80 minute lesson to Years 2,3 students. One teacher and the Principal are employed for five days and the remaining four staff teach part time. The school currently employs a part-time registrar, two teacher assistants, a library officer, one gardener and a cleaner. Coorow Primary School employs 11 staff making it the second largest employer in the town, apart from the shire council.FUTURE DIRECTIONS? As a school, we intend to: * Develop programs aimed at raising the level of Social and Civic Responsibility. * Continue to increase the breadth of analysis across other learning areas. * Continue to analyse student performance over a number of years - Data Club. * Enable our TAGS students to access PEAC programs in 2008. * Continue to access contemporary Professional Learning on teaching pedagogy. * Continue to access System Endorsed Professional Learning on Making Consistent Judgements. * Access professional Learning opportunities wherever possible as a whole school and as collaborative teams. * Enable staff to access the Administration System within their classrooms to monitor student attendance. * Reporting to parents using the Department of Education and Training Student Information System. * Raise awareness of the achievements of our students and staff to the wider community. | ||||
