| CLIFTON HILLS PRIMARY SCHOOL (CHPS) was first opened in 1972 and is located on the slopes of the Darling Escarpment approximately 25 km SE of Perth. The school has an enrolment of 349 students and has an on site Kindergarten and Pre-Primary. Features of the school buildings include a new senior block which was replaced in 1992 due to fire damage and a new canteen, which was officially opened last year. The school has specialist Art and Music programs. Clarinet, flute and trumpet are instruments available to the children through the Department of Education and Training Instrumental Music Program. The school has a senior and junior choir which performs at Dalefest and the prestigious Massed Choir Festival. The Art program contributes to the culture of the school. The school has a strong sports program and last year was actively involved at an Interschool level. Our football team won the Eagles Cup and soccer team was undefeated throughout the season. We are hoping to maintain these excellent results this year. In 2005 Japanese was introduced as the school's Language other than English for years 3 - 7. The students have participated in a number of cultural activities, including the Japanese Exchange Program where families host Japanese students. This year the students will be arriving in March. Our priorities this year are English (Writing and Spelling) and First Steps Mathematics. A strong focus on Information, Communication and Technology, Early Childhood Education, Health and Well-Being and Aboriginal Education will also be encouraged. The school also has an Early Intervention Program and participates in the Primary Extension and Challenge program. The school has a highly effective Pastoral Care focus. This year we will be implementing the Friendly Schools and Families Program and continuing the School Volunteer Program. The Behaviour Management and Students at Educational Risk Policies cater for the needs of all students at the school. The result of last years parent survey demonstrates that the school community view Clifton Hills as a safe, caring and effective learning environment for their children. | ||||
