| City Beach Primary School is a small, caring school with a student population of approximately 250, catering for children from Kindergarten to Year 7. The student population has an international/multicultural feel with a number coming from different parts of the world. Overlooking the Indian Ocean in the western suburbs of Perth and set amidst wide-open spaces, well-established trees and gardens, the school has two playing fields, a resurfaced playground catering for netball, tennis and basketball and a recently built undercover area. The learning programs at the school reflects the belief that children learn in different ways in an ever changing world. The aim is to assist students to become independent, responsible, confident and enquiring learners, while developing understandings, skills and attitudes relevant to their individual needs, encouraging them to contribute to the development of our society. 'Achieving Together', the School Motto, is a focus for the positive cooperation between all members of the school community. Each student is known and treated as an individual. Teachers, parents and students work together to achieve shared goals. Students care for one another and play together. Senior students take particular note of the welfare of the youngest members of the school community through the 'Buddy' system. Student leadership is encouraged with senior students given the opportunity to be Sports Captains, Student Councillors and Peer Mediators. Through these opportunities for leadership a sense of community spirit has also been created with the students setting a fundraising goal for a local charity on a term-by-term basis. The school has developed a strong environmental focus that has brought a succession of national awards. The cornerstone of the school's strong ecology program is the Bush Garden project, started as a parent initiative in 1989. All classes participate in an environmental project such as recycling, frog and butterfly breeding, worm farming and tree planting. There is a focus on public speaking, art and music, with the choir frequently performing at major school or public functions. The school also offers an Instrumental Music program in guitar, clarinet and trumpet for students in Years 6 and 7. | ||||
