Churchlands Primary School is located in the leafy suburb of Floreat approximately 7kilometres north-west of the Perth CBD, adjacent to Edith Cowan University and a short walk from Churchlands Senior High School. The school nestles in a tranquil environment with lush gardens and beautiful shady trees. Buildings based on a cluster model with all rooms fully air conditioned with easy access to all facilities.

Churchlands Primary School opened in 1965 to serve the rapidly growing eastern and northern ends of the Wembley Downs and Floreat districts following the 1962 Empire and Commonwealth Games. The boundary later increased to include the area now known as Churchlands. The advent of Churchlands Teachers College (now Edith Cowan University) saw the original school absorbed into the university and in 1972 a new school opened on the present site.

The population of the school numbers three hundred students and general achievement is above state norms. Parent support of the school and its educational programs is very strong and the Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) is a dynamic force in the school. The school tone is maintained at a high standard thanks to the values programs implemented in recent times.

The School Council is made up of a majority of parents and is involved in making wide ranging decisions that impact on the school. The major focus of the Council is to formalise planning and financial controls annually.

This school has a vibrant musical program that has been developed over a number of years. Instrumental tuition exists for piano, clarinet, violin, cello, trumpet and other wind instruments. There is a school choir, a band and a string ensemble that perform regularly at school assemblies and at external events.

Due to ongoing P&C support and careful financial management, the school has been able to establish three Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories. Together with the ICT in classrooms, the school has almost 60 fully networked computers. The library is also fully networked and integrated within the school internal network allowing access throughout the school.

The academic standards across the school are generally high and as a result programs are in place to cater for specific needs of children. A large number of children benefit from external Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) programs which are supplement by in school enriched curriculum options and classes implementing multiple intelligence strategies.

Japanese is the second language provided for students from Years 3-7.

The school now caters for 40 on site, full time, Pre Primary students. It also can accept up to 40 Kindergarten students at the off-site building on Kirkdale Street.

In the history of Churchlands Primary School there has always been a close tie with Edith Cowan University. Teachers are involved in teacher student practices.
