| Chidlow Primary School is a lovely rural school, surrounded by Jarrah and Marri forests 13 km east of the Mundaring township and 3 kms from Lake Leschenaultia. This is a very tranquil setting, being on the outskirts of the town and backing onto an A class reserve. The school is located 55km east of Perth, just off Great Eastern Highway. Chidlow Primary School has a catchment area that extends to Gidgegannup to the north and east to Wooroloo and The Lakes. Three buses service Chidlow Primary School with 25% of the children using this facility, with all buses providing a shuttle service to Eastern Hills Senior High School for secondary students. The students at Chidlow are predominately from the township or small acreage homes located close to town. Parents commute to Midland and Perth or are employed in a number of local industries. The staffing at Chidlow Primary School continues to be very experienced with little movement from year to year. Nine of the teaching staff have been here for six years or more and live locally in the Hills environment. Events that take place during the year at the school include the Lightning Carnival, Athletics Carnival, Cross Country and Wakakirri. Chidlow Primary School has eight classes that comprise a total enrolment of 200 students from Pre-primary to Year 7. A Kindergarten is located only minutes away on Northcote Street. The junior classes share a playground, while the senior classes have access to a senior playground, oval and netball court. Chidlow Primary School is focusing heavily in 2007 on:- 1.Improving the numeracy skills of students through the introduction of a Getting It Right Numeracy teacher and First Steps Mathematics; 2.Improving the learning outcomes of students deemed to be at educational risk; 3.Helping staff to develop improved pedagogical skills through the medium of First Steps Writing; 4.Increasing the students' understanding on the processes of writing ; 5.Developing children's respect for themselves, others, property and environment. 6.Developing appropriate ways of conflict resolution with others. 7.Helping students develop and grow as whole individuals in a caring and supportive environment. 8.Participating in the Sustainable Schools program and actively involving students, staff and parents in recycling and education to care for our environment. | ||||
