Cervantes is a small coastal town situated 250 km north of Perth with the Nambung National Park and the famous Pinnacles on our doorstep. The main industry in Cervantes is Cray fishing with other residents involved in local businesses and a few are employed by the local mining company Tiwest at Cataby. Cervantes is a popular holiday destination and the many visitors cause the town population of approximately 500 permanent residents to fluctuate.

Cervantes Primary school is a Level 3 school in the Mid West District with an average enrolment of 52 over the last three years. Our vision of 'The Pinnacle of Learning and Growing Together' reflects our unique environment and our mission to respect the individuality of each child and encourage them to succeed in a changing world. We are known for the collaborative approach between students, parents and staff to achieve each child's potential.

Stable teaching and support staff over the last few years has helped ensure the quality of educational programs offered at Cervantes Primary. The three Multi age classrooms have small numbers of students and the early childhood classes are supported with regular Teacher Assistant time. Numeracy and Literacy remain a focus with many resources directed to them ensuring an individualized approach.

Cervantes Primary teaching staff offers many interesting learning programs utilising local and outside experts. Students from all year levels are involved in visits to Perth or surrounding areas and senior class students attend a week camp every second year. PCAP funding allows us to ensure students are not disadvantaged due to our isolated location. Traditions at Cervantes Primary include a summer surf carnival, involvement in ANZAC services, Year 7 leadership development, Fathers Day Breakfast, involvement in local Arts and Craft Exhibition, the Year 7 Graduation celebrations and the end of year Beach Party.

Our sea murals painted by a past student along with large grassed playing areas, early and middle childhood playgrounds and new entrance area help make our school a colourful and inviting environment. Staff continually promotes and explicitly teaches our school values of Friendliness, Integrity and Respect across the curriculum. We often receive feedback from visitors about our friendly and polite students.

An active School Council and P&C have seen many improvements around the school over the last three years. The P&C run an annual children's fishing competition at Easter time as well as fundraise through a variety of events to contribute a significant amount of money towards the library, technology and school excursions each year. Funding from Investing in our Schools Program enabled the school to acquire new playground equipment, erect a wind break around the outdoor stage and resurface a hardstand area in 2006. Funding from the same program will be used to improve the computer network in 2007.

Our school may be small but the school community work together diligently to provide a BIG education.
