| CARINE PRIMARY SCHOOL SCHOOL PROFILECarine Primary School is a Level 5 primary school with approximately 580 Kindergarten to Year 7 students. It is situated on the coastal strip, approximately 15 kilometres north-west of Perth in Western Australia. The school grounds merge with nearby Carine Senior High School and both schools have wide open playing areas which are extensively used and enjoyed by the school community. Carine enjoys excellent support from the school community and parental involvement is encouraged and valued. Parents support the school in many ways including committee work, assistance in the classroom, coaching and officiating at sporting events, assisting with excursions and camps and being involved in fundraising activities. Carine Primary School is well known for its excellent academic performance, its brilliant choir, instrumental music program, the students' renowned sporting abilities, its Information and Computer Technology programs, its support of students at educational risk, its pastoral care and its experienced and highly supportive staff. Currently the school's priority involves the ongoing implementation of Higher Order Thinking Strategies and these are integrated across all aspects of the curriculum. Another current priority is the ongoing implementation of the DET Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Policy. Three talented and gifted programs have been implemented at Carine Primary School. The Junior Arts Group (JAG) involves developing the singing and dancing talents of a group of 20 young students. A Theatre Arts Group (TAPS) has been formed to enhance the speaking skills of a group of students in years 4 and 5. The school also has a Senior Talented and Gifted (STAG) group of senior students who have demonstrated strong ICT and language skills and these skills are further enhanced through a range of ICT programs. Carine Primary School is a Waterwise school and has joined the Bluearth Program which trains both students and teachers in physical activities that help to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The school is also involved in the Crunch and Sip Program. Some of our students benefit from the mentoring and coaching they receive as part of the school's involvement in the Support-a-Reader and Volunteers' Programs. Carine's talented school choir performs at different functions throughout the year and has had the distinction of performing on two occasions at the Schools' ANZAC Day Ceremony in Kings Park. Carine Primary School is a bright and vibrant school whose philosophy reflects the intent of the Curriculum Framework's principles of Learning, Teaching and Assessment. To this extent students are given every opportunity to set goals, self-reflect, self-assess, work both collaboratively and individually, problem solve, negotiate aspects of the curriculum, respect and value others and integrate the curriculum with ICT, the environment and other learning areas. The school prides itself on its inclusive practices and the work done with students to ensure that they learn in a safe and secure environment. In order to implement all of our programs the school has five specialist teachers in the areas of Language (Japanese and Italian), Physical Education, Music and ICT. A strong feature of the school is the experienced and talented staff whose collaborative approach is appreciated and valued throughout the wider school community.
