THE COMMUNITY
Carey Park Primary School's students come from a community that has a significant level of socio-economic disadvantage. The school currently receives additional funding through the Commonwealth Literacy and Numeracy Project to assist in overcoming the educational and social disadvantage of the students. Approximately 17b0of the students are Aboriginal.STAFFING PROFILE
The staff at Carey Park is a relatively stable one. While all staff has been teaching for several years, some of them have been at the school for a number of years, and these people provide invaluable information about past practices at the school.

Leadership in the school is provided through a Principal, two Deputies, a Level 3 teacher and five Senior teachers. Support staff provides expertise in music, library, information technology, Literacy and assisting students at educational risk. The school also has several teacher assistants who have duties in the Pre-primary, K and Year 1-7 classes, and others who may be employed short-term to address specific areas of the School Plan. Non-teaching staff includes a Registrar, Clerical Officer, Library Officer and two Aboriginal Education Officers.SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE SCHOOL
The new Carey Park Primary School began operation at the commencement of the 2001 school year. The school features a two-storey Teaching Block, a Library Resource area, a Music room with adjoining Covered Assembly Area, a Canteen and a three room Pre-primary / Kindergarten block. The Administration Area provides facilities for administrators, an interview room, a modern medical room and Student Services room. All teaching and learning areas and the Administration Area have access to networked computers and the Internet through an extensive cabling system.

Tennis / basketball courts are fenced, and playing fields and playground areas are established. Students have created a vegetable garden, which is used as part of science lessons, and they enjoy the solitude of the Secret Garden and pond.SCHOOL DECISION MAKING AND CONSULTATION PROCESS
The school communicates regularly with the community, and there are many ways parents and community members can become involved with the students' education. The School Council meets regularly and participates actively in making decisions about the school, and in approving the School Plan, policies and the budget.SCHOOL SUPPORT INITIATIVES
TRANSIENCY: The student population fluctuates because of the transient nature of the population. This causes complications in class structures and in making meaningful judgements about the school's performance. This factor also impacts on financial planning for the school. To minimise transiency issues the Learning Support teacher will provide staff and students support with new enrolments.BEHAVIOUR: The school has a very successful Behaviour Management In Schools program, which is supported by parents. The focus of the program is on acknowledging desired behaviours and students changing their unacceptable behaviour. The school has recently recieved funds for BMaD and is currently writing a plan for the effective implemnentation and support in theis area.

SAER: The school has a significant proportion of Students At Educational Risk. The resources are allocated to support these students. Approximately one third of the transient students each year are identified SAER students. SAER students each have a file and are provided Learning Support teacher time. CLNP funding assists in the purchase of text books for IEP's for some of these students.

Overall:
Facilities, most of the teachers. The Principal. In the last week of school I approached the principal on some issues with my daughter I wanted sorted for next year. He refused to listen, talked over me and generally acted like he knew everything and I was just being silly. He spoke to me as one would to students and I am an ADULT. And it was not the first time.I am considering withdrawing my daughters from this school due to the principal and his attitude. He is always right and you are always wrong.

Facilities are good. Clean enviurment.Principal. Acts superior when speaking to you. Like he is the principal and what would you know attitude. Is very negative when discussing your child. He completely overreacts to situations.School itself is great but you don't feel like you can approach the principal with concerns.

Overall:
Educational opportunities are goodThe Principal. He is a strange dude. He is not willing to see a parents point of view at all. He seems to make things up as he goes along in an effort to prove he is right about whatever the discussion is.Educational area is good and lots of opportunities for students. But the principal needs to respect parents more.

Overall:
-Friendly teachers. -Good learning program. -Excellent supervision of children. -Older students are given responsibility within the school.Very few aspects of the school are negative.I went to this school just a few years ago and it is a friendly environment despite many negative opinions from people whom have not even visited the school. It is kept well cleaned and all students are respected and taught to a high standard.

The facilities are good. Clean and tidy school. The principal is quite difficult to work with. He is adept at putting you down with a smile. He doesn't seem to know how to interact with parents and staff on an adult level.I enjoy being at the school but feel a more open minded principal would help moral and the general atmosphere at the school to improve. I am tired of listening to parents complaining about him.

The facilities and up to date programsThe principal. His opinion is the only opinion. The school and staff are good but the principal is very difficult to hold discussions with. They tend to be one sided and he doesn't listen to what you are saying. He talks over you and is very patronizing. He is more interested in covering his own backside than anything else.

Overall:
Vice-Principal has a positive and caring attitude towards students. The Principal. He is very difficult to get along with (unless you agree wholeheartedly with him). He has a tendency to pick out students who he doesn't consider the best behaved and then hammers and nit picks them repeatedly which of course has a negative effect and makes their behaviour worse. The school itself is clean and tidy and most of the teachers appear to be caring towards the students.
