| Calingiri is a small Wheatbelt town situated 148 kilometres from Perth. The town is the main centre for the Shire of Victoria Plains, with the Shire buildings located there. The town has a population of 150. The school opened in 1917 and has proudly and consistently provided a sound education facility for the community and surrounding districts. The school population is currently 56 students. The predominate number of students come from farms, travelling to school on two buses. Regular maintenance work has been carried out on the school buildings. The buildings are in good condition and well presented. The main school building has two classrooms, an administration area, a store room & staff room. A veranda runs the length of the building providing shade and an area to sit and store bags undercover. A transportable class room houses the senior students. All buildings are air conditioned. In addition to the main buildings the school has a small library, two garden sheds, an art shed, a sports shed and toilet block. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with lush gardens and lawn, an oval, cricket nets, age appropriate playground equipment and a bitumen area. An undercover structure has been erected adjacent to the Library.This provides additional space for play during inclement weather and a protected area for activities suited to an area larger than a class room. The school flexibly structures classes to ensure optimal outcomes for students.In 2007 three full time classes operate: Room 1 with the Kindergarten to Year 1 students; Room 2 caters for Years 2 - 4; the Year 5 - 7 students are located in the transportable.The Kindergarten students attend for two full days In 2007 fifty six students are enrolled at the school. The school has excellent resources with the P&C actively supporting the provision and upgrading of equipment. Students have daily access to Technology resources, with multiple computers and the internet available in all rooms. Delivery of the LOTE program in Indonesian and Japanese is through Centra from the School for Isolated and Distance Education. Centra is delivered via the internet and is an interactive technology. Many opportunities are given to student to participate in a wide variety of activities in all aspects of the curriculum. Participation takes the forms of incursions, excursions and clinics. Students attend a biannual camp which provides a focus for many learning activities. In 2007 students will join with Yerecoin Primary School to visit Kalgoorlie for a week. Students at Calingiri Primary School are encouraged to develop through a nurturing culture that focuses on learning in all domains. Each individual is a valued member of the school community. | ||||
