| BUNBURY PRIMARY SCHOOL - Strive To Achieve Bunbury Primary School (formerly known as Bunbury Central School) opened in May 1895 at what is currently known as the Paisley Centre, named after the first headmaster, Mr Thomas W. Paisley. The school moved to its present site and opened on 12th February 1962. The three wings of the school each contain four classrooms and adjoin the service and administration block to form an 'E' shaped building. A Library Resource Centre was added to the school in 1981. The Pre Primary Centre, on the school site, was completed in 1989. In 1999, a 4 Year Old Kindergarten program commenced at the school. A purpose built Kindergarten classroom was opened in February 2001. Through a joint school/P&C project, all classrooms are air-conditioned. Located two hours south of Perth, Bunbury Primary School is situated in an area known as 'Tree Street Area'. The area has extensive, attractive, leafy grounds and trees surrounded by many distinctive early 20th Century homes, many of which have been restored to their original style. Only two minutes drive from the city centre, the school's intake area also includes the newly developed Marlston Hill and Bury Hill developments. Staff and students are hard working and an atmosphere of mutual respect, support, cooperation and friendliness is quickly apparent from a visit to the school. A number of staff have been nominated for and received 'Excellence in Teaching' Awards. All students have the opportunity to succeed at the highest level and are encouraged to take active roles in school and classroom leadership. The school's vision is to educate students to become independent life long learners who respect themselves and others, develop a sense of equity, participate in their communities and understand the need to maintain sustainable environmental systems. As a school, to bring this vision alive, we want to assist children to become independent, enquiring and confident learners by developing literacy, mathematical, physical and creative skills to the best of their ability, develop in students a sense of responsibility towards others and the environment, promote the self worth of students in a changing society and involve the community in our school through such things as classroom help, the School Council and the P&C. To achieve our Vision we need to set the following goals enable students to attain their highest academic achievement possible while providing extension and remediation programmes, practise environmental awareness, develop social skills and a positive and caring attitude towards others, establish a high level of communication skills, seek to develop a positive self concept with each child, to develop children as independent learners and establish an understanding of technology in a changing world. The school competes in the annual eisteddfod through the junior and senior choirs as well as individual and group recorder and participates in the annual Combined Schools' Music Festival. We support the development of relationships across age groups through a pastoral care programme called Clans that is a key component of the school's Values plan. Children are encouraged and supported to compete in such things as mathematics, design and construction (engineering) and writing and arts related competitions. A sense of social conscience is fostered through fundraising for charity. At Bunbury Primary School we value the uniqueness of our children and acknowledge that they all have a range of qualities that enhance the school learning environment and contribute to the school culture. The school has a warm and welcoming community whose energy and enthusiasm can be seen throughout all school activities and functions. Bunbury Primary School is a local area intake school. However, if vacancies exist and a suitable educational programme can be offered, students from outside the area may be enrolled. | ||||
