| Broomehill Primary School- Learning, Sharing, Caring. Broomehill is located in the Great Southern district of Western Australia, twenty kilometres south of Katanning, and approximately 150 kilometres north of Albany. The school services the families that live in the town of Broomehill, the surrounding farmlets and those residing on nearby grain and livestock farms. Currently the school consists of approximately 70 students aged between 4 and 12. The movement of families into the area for employment locally and in Katanning and the sale of land by Landcorp have resulted in a sharp increase in numbers in the first half of 2006. Three bus services are utilised by students travelling to school in Broomehill. Katanning Senior High School is the closest secondary school. The school buildings consist of three classrooms: the Junior Room: K - Yr 1, Middle Room: Yr 2 - 4 and Senior Room: Yr 5 - 7. Kindergarten students attend four mornings a week, sharing learning experiences with Pre-Primary and Year 1 students in our wonderful Junior Room that allows for innovative planning and programming. We also have a library and a well-utilised undercover area. Resources are plentiful considering the size of the school and the computer network with Broadband access is well established. Internal access to the library from all classrooms allows for effective use of the resources. Three full-time teachers and three part-time teachers assume a number of roles within the school, supported by the Level 3 teaching principal. PCAP funds are used to fund the school's music programme, Italian is offered to students through the LOTE Programme in Years 2-7and we use one teacher 0.7FTE for Literacy and Numeracy support. The principal undertakes a teaching load in addition to administrative duties. Effective school development is achieved through a close, collaborative and reflective team approach in which staff members are encouraged to take on leadership roles. Thoughtful staff timetabling is used to ensure sufficient support is provided for cooperative planning and preparation between teaching and support staff. Staff enjoy our working environment, our students and our community and as such staff turn over is low. Crucial members of the staff are the Teacher Assistants, Education Support Assistants and the Registrar. Their experience, skill, dedication and local knowledge are greatly valued. Other staff members serve in part-time positions in gardening, cleaning, library services, providing Education Support and supervising bus students. Our school encourages, welcomes and values parent and community involvement. Our Parents & Citizens are very active in fundraising and in supporting school events and our School Council conscientiously investigate and question school processes and initiatives and provide thoughtful input to support the school's decision-making processes. Our school is well-supported by the local shire and the wider community. Although Broomehill School is the most southern school within the Narrogin Education District we are well supported by their specialist services. We also access specialist support from the Great Southern Health Service (Speech and Occupational Therapy) and staff from the Centre for Inclusive Schooling. The school hosts an excellent early childhood support program called 'A Smart Start' which was designed, implemented and originated from the school. This program is highly successful and caters for the parents and carers of children aged 0 to 12. This program's success is evident by its growing implementation into many schools and shires across W.A. In addition during 2005, the ADOLF (oral language) program has been reintroduced to K - 1. The initiation of the Perceptual Motor Program for early phase students supports the oral language focus also. The school has a strong values system based on the word R.E.S.P.E.C.T. These values, actively supported by our wider school community, are promoted inside and outside the classroom~ Responsibility, Engagement, Self Esteem, Pride, Enterprise, Compassion and Tolerance. | ||||
