| School Overview Brentwood Primary School is situated 12 kilometres south of Perth, near the Kwinana Freeway. The school was opened in 1956 and services an area bounded by the Kwinana Freeway to the east, Leach Highway to the south, Riseley St to the west and Coomara Rd to the north. There are 220 students enrolled at Brentwood Primary and 9 students with disabilities learning in the Education Support Unit. The school has had recent renovations with the eastern front wing of the school being painted in 2006 and the bitumen basketball courts resurfaced. A new toilet block, canteen, covered assembly area and library/IT centre were built in 2002. These new facilities have greatly enhanced the school's learning programs. Programs: Information Technology Brentwood was one of 12 schools chosen to be part of the Department's Technology Trial. As a result it has a well developed computer network that children can access via wireless laptops or desk top computers. The Information Technology Centre has a laboratory of 20 computers provides the teachers with an area for whole class instruction whilst the trolley of 15 laptops can be used throughout the school and supplements the bank of 3 computers in each classroom. The school has an E-Learning co-ordinator who works collaboratively with classroom teachers to develop links between technology and classroom curriculum delivery. Stop Think Do This program has been introduced throughout the school. It provides students with strategies to deal with issues such as bullying, social issues and general thinking and planning skills. This program focuses around role play so children can develop skills in a supportive environment. Music The school has an excellent part time Music Specialist as well as the School of Instrumental Music teachers visiting once a week to conduct guitar and violin lessons. The school choir performs regularly and is well regarded in the community. Physical Education and Sport The school more than satisfies the directive that all students should participate in 2 hours of physical activity each week. The school has a PE specialist teacher who works with all children once a week. Class teachers also take another hour session of Physical Education/Sport as well as several physical activity sessions each week. Brentwood is a member of the Melville Districts Sports Association and competes in soccer, football, netball, cross country and athletics. Languages Other Than English All students from years 3-7 learn Japanese for one hour per week. Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) Brentwood has a high number of students attending the PEAC courses at venues across the district. Students are assessed for eligibility to attend PEAC courses in year 4. Students At Educational Risk (SAER) Students with learning difficulties and disabilities are catered for effectively. Community There is a significant multicultural population with very strong sense of School Community at Brentwood Primary School. The Parents and Citizens association and the School Council are very active in carrying out their responsibilities. School and class activities are very well supported by parents, with excellent attendance at special days and assemblies. | ||||
