| Bremer Bay is situated 170 kilometres east of Albany and 370 kilometres west of Esperance. The school is in the Esperance Education district and supported by the Canning, Albany, Goldfields and Esperance Service Area. It is in a delightful location with the town sitting above the Bremer River and Wellstead Estuary. It has some of the most scenic coastlines to the west and east of the townsite. Bremer Bay school's catchment area consists of children from the town and surrounding farms. As the fishing industry (abalone and pilchards) and tourist industries grow the profile of the school community is changing. Previously the focus was on the stable farming population but now there are more families located in the townsite. The school itself is in a picturesque location with views of the bay, Bremer river, Mount Barren and the Wellstead estuary. These landmarks are features in the mosaic wall recently created by the students with artist in residence, Rosemary Bilsby. Building and grounds are beautifully maintained. The main school buildings are traditional wooden structures but an ECE Centre and administration building have been welcome additions in recent years. There is adequate space for storage, a library, a teacher's preparation room and an art store room. The school is exposed to inclement weather conditions and there are no enclosed undercover areas for physical activities however the school is very well resourced and one day of rain is always followed by beautiful sunny conditions. The students are in one of two MAG classes; K-3 and 4-7. With two classes this has created a 'community room' for assemblies, whole school activities such as singing, incursions and community events. Bremer Bay Primary is a school where students are provided with many opportunities to develop life skills that enable them to cope with the ever changing world. Students are encouraged to do their best and to search for excellence through participation in classroom, school, and community activities. Pride in personal achievement is actively promoted. Parent and community involvement in the school is outstanding and there is a positive and healthy attitude towards the school. Support is provided in reading, writing, The Arts and physical education programmes. The School Council comprising the Principal, a staff member and several parents is actively engaged in school decision making and reviewing policies. The P&C, although small in number, is committed to raising funds and assisting the school with special events, camps and buying valuable resources to support the best learning opportunities for all students and the maintenance of a safe learning environment. The Student Council has a representative from all year groups. The students meet regularly to plan their role in special events and problem solve student identified issues. The councillors always represent their school with pride. Staff at Bremer Bay come with a range of previous experience and this enriches both the classroom practice and the day to day running of the school. Both teaching and non-teaching staff are committed to improvement through professional learning and this supports the dynamic, inclusive learning environment of the school. The students show great care and concern for the welfare of each other and celebrate the achievements of their friends. This attitude makes Bremer Bay a rewarding, nurturing environment for the school community and one of the many reasons the school is held in high regard by the parent community. | ||||
