| Borden Primary School is a small attractive school nestled in a picturesque farming environment close to the scenic Stirling Ranges. The town is located just over an hour's drive north-east of Albany, a beautiful port town, and about 400 kms from Perth, an easy four hour drive. The forty-eight students come from thirty-one families mostly associated with farming. The parents are very supportive of the school and its activities; volunteering in the classrooms and running school events such as sports days. Students are always commended for their thoughtful participation and good manners when hosting visitors or out on excursions. Inclusive behaviour, leadership and good citizenship are promoted strongly with good success. Many students go on to become student leaders at high school. Borden PS has an experienced staff who live locally. The registrar recently received a District Education Week Award for exceptional service to the school community. The school is 'asthma friendly' and has well developed health care policies. The school has very pleasant play areas and gardens and is well equipped, particularly regarding access to technology. A well developed computer network, with high speed internet access and an exceptioally high level of access for students has been established at the school. P&C support has been significant in achieving this high level of resources. The Community Kindergarten maintains close links and visits for future Pre-Primary students ensure an easy transition. Priority Country Area Project funding supports activities for students each term such as school camps and excursions; the employment of specialist teachers in The Arts and Physical Education; and specialist programs such as the Borden Oral Language Development program. Many parents are involved in community projects and associations such as St John Ambulance, fire brigade, sporting groups and town development. Citizenship is highly valued in the Borden community and our students demonstrate their own citizenship by watering the tubs of flowering plants in Moir St, helping with plantings of the streetscape and representing the school at the town's Anzac Day service. Each month a student who has displayed good citizenship is selected to be 'Aussie of the Month'. The town has a tavern, general store and post office, cafe, large grain handling facility, farm supplier and short stay accommodation. Other facilities include the Borden Pavilion, an outstanding venue catering for a range of sporting and cultural activities. Medical services and facilities are available in nearby Gnowangerup. Three government employee houses are reserved for incoming teachers. | ||||
