Welcome to Booragoon Primary School.

Booragoon Primary School is in the Fremantle Education District. The school was established in 1967 and is located in a bush setting one hundred metres from the Wireless Hill Reserve. Students attending the school are mainly from the suburb of Booragoon and Alfred Cove with some enrolments from families residing in nearby suburbs. There are currently 268 primary students enrolled in Years 1 to 7 and 43 Kindergarten (4-year olds) and 43 Pre Primary (5-year olds) students in pre compulsory programs.

The buildings and grounds are well established, providing an excellent educational environment for students and staff. The school comprises two teaching blocks comprising ten (11) air conditioned teaching areas and two onsite Pre Primary Units. The school also has a new Multi Purpose Building incorporating Visual Arts, Instrumental Music, Multi Function Room (Drama, Cooking, Activities etc) and a fully automated Library.

The Booragoon Primary School's vision is:'Aspiring to be a caring and collaborative community of learners.' To facilitate this staff have a program of professional development to provide current information about Department of Education and Training (DET) initiatives. The school provides an educational program that caters for a broad spectrum of abilities, needs and interests of students and has strong links with parents and the local community. The school has a policy that requires students to wear an agreed code of dress.

An active Student Council and P&C meet to promote student activities.The school has recently moved to a House System incorporating aspects of physical, social, emotional and academic welfare of all students.

The school has two units on site providing Four Year Old and Five Year Old programs and an offsite Kindergarten facility located at nearby Kennedy Street. The units feature up-to-date resources and programs, carefully selected to maximise learning opportunities. The focus changes frequently in response to the developmental learning programs devised by Early Childhood Teachers supported by Education Assistants. The staff make extensive use of the Speech and Language Screener to identify students at risk. Parent involvement is encouraged.

Primary students study a full range of subjects across the eight learning areas. The exception is Languages Other Than English (LOTE, Japanese), which is studied by Years 2 to 7. There is a focus on ICT, Visual Arts, Drama and Music, which have specialist teacher tuition time. Some students attend Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) classes provided by the Department. Talented and Gifted programs operate across the school.

Significant funding has been allocated to support Information Communication Technologies and the provision of computers in each room supported by a trolley of Our computers have Internet access while digital still, and video, cameras are used extensively. An acclaimed teacher resource bank titled 'Booragoon e-ssentials' is used extensively by staff.

A modern well-resourced and automated library resource centre is the communications hub of the school. Specialist instruction in the use of the automated facilities provides students with experience in using computer equipment. Computers are also available for Internet and Intranet access and group tuition.

A committed team, comprising a manager and volunteer workers, provide school lunches three days a week from a canteen facility connected to the undercover area. Multi purpose courts are available for student use and for hire to the general public.

At Booragoon Primary School, parents and care givers are recognised as important contributors to their child's social, physical, cultural, moral and intellectual development. Their contribution includes helping with the implementation of a range of in-class programs; assisting with extra curricula activities; participating in the school decision making process via an active Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) and School Council; supporting the ongoing development of the school resources and facilities via the P&C and attending parent information sessions and meetings. The school provides information via a fortnightly newsletter.

The school perceives the relationship with parents and care givers as being part of a team endeavouring to achieve common goals.

Overall:
Lovely area. Great kids.The staff have been here for far too long and should be moved on.This school is in a time warp. Many of the staff have done the same activities over and over. They rest on their laurels. This school needs a great big shake up.
