Bicton Primary School is located in the suburb of Bicton, which is just north of Fremantle and is bordered by the Swan River to the North, Petra Street to the West, Canning Highway to the South and Stock Road to the East. The original address of View Street is now part of the school property giving the pupils safe access to the adjacent oval. The school site area is 3.88 hectares which contributes to a comforting atmosphere . The school was established in 1904 and celebrated its centenary in 2004.

There are many new homes being constructed at this time, contributing to the current growth in enrolments, which is expected to continue in the foreseeable future. For the year 2008 there are twelve primary classes, two pre-primary and two kindergarten classes.

The current growth in student numbers adds a dynamic feel to the school community. Staff are pleased to be attached to such a school and parents are pleased to have their children attend a school with such a positive atmosphere. The school culture is one of respect for the individual in a safe and happy environment.

The school is truly part of the community with the sporting facilities and playground equipment being in constant use out of school hours in both formal and casual arrangements. Many parents and some staff attended the school during their primary education years. Parents are very supportive of the school programs and this is reflected in the children's attitude to their work.

The activities of the school are well supported by parents and the community in general, in particular by the activities of the P & C Association. The P & C Association has in recent years installed new playground equipment and the school was air conditioned in 1999 with the P & C raising most of the money outside of the school community. More recently each classroom has been furnished with new student desks and chairs. This year the P&C are focussing on increasing the computer ratios in the classrooms.

The aesthetics of the school buildings and settings with terraced grounds and established trees make the school a pleasant place to visit, work and study.

The main school building is a three wing structure surrounding a quadrangle playground and is made of brick and iron with wide verandahs featuring traditional white wood railings in a criss-cross pattern. The Northern wing of the school is double storied at the end and the area underneath has been enclosed to provide an early childhood room. The School has a state-of-the-art combined Library and Computer laboratory with the latest technology.

Due to a tornado which extensively damaged the school in 2005, a rebuilding programme was undertaken and completed in 2006 which includes a four classroom cluster with a central wet area, a music room, an art/science room, expanded staff room and refurbished administration.

The City of Melville and the Department of Youth Sport and Recreation, in a joint project have constructed hardcourts providing excellent facilities for basketball, netball and tennis.

There is a wooden School Hall, which also generates P&C income through hire and a new purpose built Undercover area, which includes a Canteen, a generous Sports Store and accommodation for the gardener and his equipment.

The school hall accommodates a day care centre for before and after school activities and supervision of our Bicton students. This functions under a subcommittee of the P&C.

The school maintains high academic standards. External educational testing shows the school has a very high level of competence in Reading and better than average scores in Written Language. Specialist teaching includes Japanese, Italian, Music, Art and Physical Education. The school has a strong commitment to the use of computers in Education with thirty being used for educational purposes throughout the school.

The School Council consists of three teachers, three parents, one community representative and the Principal. Election process for the selection of parent representation takes place in term one of the new school year. All families are entitled to vote. The council meets a minimum of once per term or as often as required by the school's business.

The School Vision is that by 2010 a whole school approach in knowledge, skills, processes and core values has ensured continuity in learning in order to maximise each individual student's potential.
