| Belmay Primary School, located on the corner of Sydenham Street and Epsom Avenue Cloverdale, commenced operations in 1952 and is within the portion of the City of Belmont considered to be inner-metropolitan and residential. The school occupies 7.5 hectares of land with students having access to large recreation areas which include an oval, basketball and netball courts and two playgrounds. In addition a large area of bushland provides the students with opportunities to learn about caring for their natural environment first hand. With many of the school's current parent body comprising past Belmay students, there is a strong feeling of 'ownership' of the school amongst the families and this contributes to a healthy community interest in progressing the school. Technology in the Curriculum For several years now Belmay Primary School has been actively involved in the 'Learning with I.C.T.' program. Involvement in this program has provided the school with the technological tools necessary for contemporary education. All classrooms are fully equipped with computers, scanners, digital cameras and laser printers. This level of resourcing, together with high speed access to the Internet, has vastly expanded the options for learning across our school. In addition to classroom based technologies, two mobile banks of notebook computers, connected to the school's wireless network, can be deployed into any class in the school to provide expanded access for students. Teacher expertise in the use of I.C.T.s in the classroom has also been greatly enhanced. This was achieved through whole of staff professional learning comprising both hands-on experiences and instruction with an emphasis on integrating learning technologies into the curriculum. Extra Curricula Activities Singing, dance and an interesting and varied program of physical activities are amongst the after school programs conducted at Belmay Primary School. The Belmay Singing Group, coordinated by parent volunteers, meets each week and has approximately 40 members. The group performs at many school and community events over the course of the year. Its two major performances are at the Western Australian Government Schools Music Concert at the Burswood Theatre and the City of Belmont, Carols by Candlight. Community Use and Partnerships The school promotes the sharing of its resources and allows several agencies and organisations to use its facilities outside of school hours. These include, Little Athletics Association, Football Club and Scouts. | ||||
